through innovative hypotheses and methodologies in on-road and simulator studies.
Topics may span defining trust, measuring it reliably, understanding its evolution, and
exploring factors like situational variables, dispositional factors, trust calibration, and
design features impacting trust. The Research Topic aspires to uncover novel concepts
and hypotheses critical for advancing trust in automated vehicles.1

behaviors and benefits of an external human–machine interface for elderly people –

This study examines how pedestrians and Automated Vehicle (AV) passengers
perceive AV behaviors during road crossings. In a dual-phase experiment with 40
participants (20 young, 20 elderly), eight AV yielding behaviors were evaluated for
safety. Significant differences emerged between age groups, particularly in how
elderly participants assessed safety from inside versus outside the AV. An external
Human-Machine Interface (eHMI) was introduced to aid interactions. Results showed
that the eHMI reduced age-related differences, helping elderly individuals better
assess AV safety, aligning their judgments with younger participants. Additionally,
the eHMI increased overall acceptance of AV and decreased concerns, particularly for
elderly pedestrians.4

permissioned Blockchain, tailoring data access for relevant participants, and
undergoes a security analysis to ensure resilience to potential attacks.5
