1. How many license plates, consisting of three letters followed by three digits, can be
produced?
2. How many different arrangements, each consisting of four different letters, can be
formed from the letters of the word “personal” if each arrangement is to begin and
end with a vowel?
3. A bus has seven vacant seats. If three additional passengers enter the bus, in how
many different ways can they be seated?
4. In how many ways can 5 out of 8 different parlor games be played in a program?
5. A football conference consists of eight teams. If each team plays every other team,
how many conference games are played?
6. A student has ten posters to pin up on the walls of her room, but there is space for
only seven. In how many ways can she choose the posters to be pinned up?
7. How many raffle tickets can be made out of letters and numbers if each ticket
contains 1 letter followed by 4 different digits?
8. How many signals can be made with three white, two blue and two green flags, by
displaying them seven at a time on a vertical pole?
9. From three architects and twelve engineers, how many teams composed of one
architect and four engineers can be formed?
10. In how many ways can a group of Mathematics majors be divided so that three will
handle Algebra, two will handle Calculus, two will handle Trigonometry and four will
handle Geometry?
11. Determine the probability of each of the following events:
a. Drawing a spade from a regular deck of cards
b. Drawing four spades in succession from a regular deck of cards if after each
card is drawn, it is not replaced in the deck
12. On a throw of a pair of fair dice, what is the probability of obtaining a sum that is at
least three?
13. A number of two different digits is to be formed from the digits 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5.
Determine the probability of each events:
a. The number is even
b. The number is less than 31
c. The number is greater than 34
