(Intel® BD82HM55 PCH) on board...I actually have 2GB DDR3 1066MHz on one slot...i have two slots in all

You should be able to upgrade. I upgraded an Aspire 5733Z (Same family of laptops) from a P6200 to an i5 560M. You can upgrade up to an i5
580M provided it is a 1st Generation socket. Mine works flawlessly now, but there are few things to note about this undertaking as well as
characteristics of this laptop design. #1 These notebooks have "piss poor" cooling characteristics. They should ALWAYS be used with an external
cooler if you're doing more than checking your email. IF your laptop has been hot too many times, you will have problems with thermal shutdown,
particularly with a more powerful CPU. (More about that later) #2 the PROPER application thermal paste is CRITICAL! Too much or too little will
result in an endless cycle of "On and Off". It took me 3 times to get it right and the third time I thought I had failed, but after the machine had set
overnight it booted right up. Been running great since!! Use a high quality paste such as Arctic Silver. Apply it in a thin even coat, or use drops big
enough to cover the square chips when they are compressed. once you press the heatsink to the CPU, do not let them separate or you'll get air
pockets. I also pressed the CPU and heatsink together after the screws were started by hand from the reinforced back side of the mainboard to
work the air out. then I snugged the screws down the rest of the way. Overtightening the screws will NOT help make better contact. The tension is
set by the springs on the screws. Overtightening can do a lot of damage but NO good. #3 The turbo Boost monitor (Download from Applications on
the Acer Website) will NOT recognize the upgrade until you reset the BIOS (be sure you have already upgrade to the newest BIOS from the Acer
site BEFORE you begin). To remedy this, you need to "Load Setup Defaults" in the BIOS after the upgrade. Then you can watch your little Turbo
Meter take off! #4 You need to download and install the latest Graphics Drivers from the Acer Website. The i5 has better built in graphics than the
Pentium... TAKE ADVANTAGE OF IT! #5 VERY IMPORTANT DOWNLOAD THE SERVICE MANUAL FOR THIS MODEL! STUDY IT AND USE IT! DON'T BE
A CHIMP WITH A ROCK AND A SCREWDRIVER! Google this: "manualslib service manual Acer Aspire 5742" I tried to post the direct link but the

You can't upgrade a laptop with integrated graphics to any Clarksfield processors, since these CPUs don't have integrated graphics.

Hey guys, just letting you know I upgraded from a Intel P6200 to a i7 620M and the laptops works fine and is much faster. Specs are now:

Intel i7 620m 2.66GHz (boost to 3.33GHz)

8gb 1333MHz ram (2x4Gb sticks)
850 EVO 120gb
Intel 7260AC wifi/bluetooth card.

Laptop is now very fast and will be using it for quite along time

I have the same problem. My Acer TM5744 has an Intel i3 380M and would like to upgrade to i5, other than that, I'd also like to upgrade from
Microsoft 7 to Microsoft 10. This laptop has been with me for quite a while so I'd much rather keep it.

If it is listed on their site then it should work. Both processors use the same socket/architecture and have the same stepping and TDP, so I doubt
that BIOS upgrade will be required.

Just upgraded a Sony Vaio VPCEB3E1E with the Intel HM55 Chipset from a P6100 to a i5-520M. Worked flawlessly, despite some prior concerns related
to the meager settings available in the BIOS.

System is running much cooler and faster now with the energy setting set to balanced. Idle temp. sits at around 45C° and so far hasn't exceeded 65C°
watching some Html5 videos on the youtubes.

Yes is possible I would recomend i7-640M that also have integrated gpu. And same architecture. You won´t have problems. Or if you want you can
use QM or XM series, but without integrated gpu.

I decided to upgrade my laptop, began with p6200 chip, 4 gb ram, and 500 gb hhd. I installed the i7-640m with no issues, but decided to update bios
to latest version and install all latest drivers to optimize what I had. Also installed samsung 850 evo 500 gb ssd, and crucial 8500 ddr3 8 gb(4gb x 2)

Since your laptop is originaly equiped with a Core i3-370M which has integrated graphics the best CPU upgrade you can do is a Core i7-640M which
also has integrated graphics.The Core i7-6xx are the only CPUs Core i7 with integrated graphics. By principle the chip HM55 will support an ugrade
like this. Just make sure you will update the BIOS to the latest version before you replace the CPU.

Hi can you people share some thought about my issues. I'm using an Acer 4741G with i5 430m stock came from the factory. the machine is good
before with 0%-8% cpu loads if it was on idle mode.But i upgraded the processors to i5 460m the cpu goes up to 40% on idle.I check on processes and
found that idle processes is taking up much cpu.and when i'm on browsing the cpu loads higher at 80% for just a simple browsing.why is the actual

Answer 2) : If your laptop version, beside the CPU integrated Intel graphics card, also has a dedicated (discreet) graphics card (e.g. ATI Mobility

as : i7-720QM, i7-740QM, i7-820QM, i7-840QM, i7-920XM and i7-940XM. Despite the HM55 chipset will (theoretically) support those CPUs there
still is a posibility they may not work with your particular laptop motherboard's configuration. But you won't know if you don't try...! In this case,
the best I can recommend is to get information whether your laptop's motherboard works with quad core CPUs while I'd suggest you to try

que veio com um P6200. Comprei o core i7- 640M, e esperei ele chegar. Quando o processador chegou, o notebook morreu, placa mãe estragou. Vida
de Br assalariado não é fácil. E depois de mais de um ano o projeto parado por falta de recursos monetários, essa semana chegou a placa mãe nova e
eu mandei para o técnico montar e formatar. Só que não achei o i7 na minha gaveta da bagunça quando enviei. O notebook ficou pronto, funcionando,
só que muito lento por conta do velho pentium. Ontem achei o i7, desmontei e troquei eu mesmo o notebook, ligou e esta funcionando, porém só
reconhece 1 core e 2 threads, normal seria 2c 4t. Ja removi os drives do processador e mesmo assim ele não reconhece, e reinstalei o drives muitas
vezes e até agora nada. Se alguém souber como fazer ele reconhecer, responde ai fazendo o favor. Att Willian.

Those CPUs are from different generations and are using different Sockets. The Core i3-380m (1st gen.) is using the Socket G1 while the Core
i3-2350m (2nd gen.) is using the Socket G2, so the answer is NO.

This is the first time ive ever come across this kind of information!

So when im understanding correctly, please correct me when im wrong *;)

As long as the Chipset on the motherboard is Compatible with other processors,

{and integrated graphics supported when using integrated graphics}

Compatible with the Bios or update possible

Compatible with the Socket type that the processor uses...
Then an Upgrade to a MUCH Faster an better CPU is possible...?

Is that correct? chipsets must have

compatibility with Bios, Socket Type, (intergrated graphics when used) and of course the Cpu...

when all is compatible there should be no problems upgrading..?

First of all, make sure your laptop has the BIOS updated to the latest version and then, theoretically, you can upgrade to the highest CPU supported
which is the quad core Core i7-940XM. Of course, you can also upgrade to the lower performance Quad Core CPUs (and less expensive) such as :
i7-920XM, i7-840QM, i7-820QM, i7-740QM and i7-720QM - all NON INTEGRATED GRAPHICS. You can also upgrade to the Dual Core CPUs Core
i7-6xxM family - all WITH INTEGRATED GRAPHICS. The Quad Core i7s have the advantage of handling a DDR3 RAM memory of a higher frequency
(up to 1333 MHz) than the Dual Core i7s ones (up to 1066 MHz). Only very few high-end laptops have discreet graphic cards that can be "plug-in"
upgraded, which is not the case of your laptop. However, you still can upgrade the CPU, the RAM memory and the HDD to a SSD. Good luck !

It has HM55/G1 mainboard with Radeon 5650HD, but old BIOS (1.12 and cannot upgrade it, seems like it is blocked somehow). Also laptop is rather
flat for its age and I'm worried about temperatures. Currently used i5 460M is 35W and it doesnt use Intel graphisc so it is 25W really. Jump to 45W
can be shocking.

Hi everyone, I have an old HP Pavilion 1055er laptop and I need to upgrade it.
I have:
MB: DA0R12MB6E0 REV:E (Model: R12)
CPU: i3-380m @ socket: rPGA 989 aka rPGA988A
Chipset: intel HM55 (hp bios version f66 rev.A)
What is the most powerful processor (from the list above) I can install on my laptop?
I found information that my limit is i7-640m ... but I'm not sure, please help.
PS: how do others know which is the highest processor a certain MB needs?

I got a old laptop since 2011. It is K52JU and I want to update the motherboard with inter HM55 chipset with I7-720QM which is compatible with this
chipset according to Intel Website. But I saw that between I3 350M and I7-720QM are not with the same architecture (Arrandale (350M) and
Clarksfield (720QM)) so it is possible that they are not compatible.
I think that I5-580M is fully compatible but I want more power and I prefer update to I7-720QM(4 cores).
Currently my bios is version 204 I think I will update to 214 but I can't find what cpu is available for each bios.
