Chapter IV

RESULTS AND DISCUSSION

This chapter presents the results, analysis and

interpretation of data gathered by the researchers on the

performance of Grade 7 students on operations on integers.

1. Pre-test score of Grade 7 students on operations on

integers

Table 3 shows the pre-test score of Grade 7 students

on operations on integers.

As shown on the table, 80% or 20 students got a

score of 0-12 described as Did Not Meet Expectations,

16% or 4 students got a score of 13-14 described as

Fairly Satisfactory, 4% or 1 student got a score of 15-

16 described as Satisfactory and 0% or no student got a

score of 17-20.

In general, the performance of the students on

operations on integers obtained an overall mean of 10.16

described as Did Not Meet Expectations. The result shows

that students were not able to demonstrate the required

competence and mastery of their lesson on operations on

integers. Specifically, they are unable to recall and

apply the rules in the operations on integers.

17-18 0 0.00% Very Satisfactory
19-20 0 0.00% Outstanding

Expectations

2. Post-test score of Grade 7 students on operations on

integers using Strategic Intervention Material (SIM)

Table 4 shows the post-test score of Grade 7

students on operations on integers using Strategic

Intervention Material (SIM).

As shown on the table, 56% or 14 students got a

score of 17-18 described as Very Satisfactory, 20% or 5

students got a score of 15-16 described as Satisfactory,

16% or 4 students got a score 13-14 described as Fairly

Satisfactory, 8% or 2 students got a score of 19-20

described as Outstanding and 0% or no student got a

score of 0-12 described as Did Not Meet Expectations.

In general, the performance of the students on

operations on integers using the Strategic Intervention

Material obtained an overall mean of 16.92 described as

Satisfactory. The result shows that students were not

able to demonstrate satisfactory performance in solving

addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of

integers.

3. Difference between the pre-test and post-test scores of

Grade 7 students in operations on integers

Table 5 shows the difference between the pre-test

and post-test scores of Grade 7 students in operations

on integers.

As shown on the table, the computed p-value of

1.051e-9 is less than 0.05 using 24 degrees of freedom,

thus we reject the null hypothesis. Therefore, there was

a significant difference found on the pre-test and post-

test scores of the students in operations on integers

using the Strategic Intervention Material (SIM).

The result revealed that the Strategic Intervention

Material (SIM) is effective in improving the performance

of Grade 7 students in operations on integers.
