1. The table below shows the time taken by a group of candidates to finish an exam.

Time in minutes 45  t  50 50  t  55 55  t  60 60  t  70 70  t  80
Number of candidates 21 32 29
Frequency Density 4.2 7.4 1.8

(a) Explain also why the frequency density for the “45-49” class is 4.2.
(b) Copy and complete the above table.
(c) Draw a histogram to illustrate this data, using a scale of 2cm per 5 units on the
horizontal axis (from 45 to 80) and 1cm per unit on the vertical axis.

2. The height of a certain type of flower was measured. Some of the results and part of the
histogram are shown below:

Height (cm) 5  h  10 10  h  15 15  h  20 20  h  30 30  h  40 40  h  60
Frequency 34
Frequency Density 6.8 9.4 5.2 1

(a) Explain why the frequency density for the “6-10” class is 6.8.
(b) Copy and complete the above table.
(c) Copy and complete the histogram shown below to illustrate this data, using a scale of
1cm per 5 units on the horizontal axis (from 0 to 60) and 1cm per unit on the vertical
axis
