2.0 STRUCTURAL SYSTEM AND DESIGN ASSUMPTIONS

The Proposed Church Building with 2-Storey Parsonage Building is designed as Special Moment
Resisting Frame System (SMRFS), a system with an essentially complete space frame providing support for
gravity loads. Moment-resisting frames also provide resistance to lateral load primarily by flexural action of
members.

3.0 LOAD CRITERIA

3.1 Dead loads

Dead loads consist of the weight of all materials of construction incorporated into the building
including, but not limited to, walls, floors, roofs, ceilings, stairways, built-in partitions, finishes,
cladding, and other similarly incorporated architectural and structural items, and fixed service
equipment including the weight of cranes.
Concrete Weight 23.60 kN/m3
Structural Steel Weight 77.00 kN/m3
Ceiling 0.15 kPa
MEP/Utilities 0.10 kPa
Floor Finish 0.54 kPa
Movable Partitions (for gravity loading) 1.00 kPa
Movable Partitions (for seismic loading) 0.50 kPa
CHB Walls (2 faces plastered)
Exterior 200mm 4.36 kPa
Exterior 150mm 3.30 kPa
Interior 100mm 2.44 kPa
Glass Wall 0.22 kPa
Roof 1.59 kPa

3.2 Live Loads

A load produced by the use and occupancy of the building or other structure that does not include
construction or environmental loads, such as wind load, snow load, rain load, earthquake load, flood
load, or dead load.

Residential (Parsonage) 1.90 kPa

Theaters, Assembly Areas and Auditoriums
Fixed Seats 2.90 kPa
Roof 0.60 kPa

3.3 Seismic Load

Structures shall be designed for ground motion producing structural response and seismic forces in
any horizontal direction.

Seismic Zone 4 conforming to latest applicable provisions of the National Structural Code of the
Philippines (NSCP 2015, Vol. 1, 7th Ed.) with Na = 1.0 and Nv = 1.0 near source factors & I=1.00
(See attached map of the nearest active fault trace).

Static Equations:
V= Cv I W / R T basic equation
V = 2.5Ca I W/ R maximum
V = 0.11 Ca I W minimum
V = 0.8 Z Nv I W/ R minimum (see NSCP for coeff. values)

Dynamic Equations:
Incorporated in Computer Analysis
(See attached UBC Design Response Spectra)

3.4 Wind Load

Conforming to latest provisions of the NSCP 2015 with basic wind speed of 290 KPH for Occupancy
Category III, IV & V Buildings and design wind pressure of:

p = qGCp – qi(GCpi) N/m2 (see NSCP for coeff. values)

qz = 0.613KzKztKdV2 N/m2; V in m/s Velocity Pressure
4.0 MATERIALS

4.1 Concrete

4.1.1. Concrete Compressive Strength (f’c)

The following concrete compressive strengths (f’c) shall be based on the 28-day strength
