CONTROL
INTRODUCTION
In the field of agriculture, protecting crops against weeds, pests,
and diseases is essential to achieving maximum yields and
high-quality produce. Although chemical pesticides have long been
the preferred method of crop protection, awareness of the dangers
chemical pesticides pose to the environment and human health is
developing. As a result, farming methods are changing to more
environmentally friendly and sustainable ones, and mechanical
control is becoming a crucial component of integrated pest
management (IPM) plans.
PROCESS/METHODS OF MECHANICAL METHODS
a. Hand weeding is the process of pulling weeds by hand or with the
use of hand instruments like weeders or hoes.
b. Tillage: The process of mechanically disturbing the soil to remove
weeds or disturb the habitats of pests. Harrows, cultivators, and
plows can be used for this.
c. Mulching is the process of applying synthetic or organic materials
to the soil's surface in order to prevent weed development and retain
soil moisture.
d. Trapping: Using barriers or traps to catch and get rid of pests in
the crop area.
PROCESS/METHODS OF MECHANICAL METHODS
e.Pruning: Eliminating diseased or infested plant portions to stop the
spread of pests or illnesses.
f.Mechanical barriers: To keep pests out of the crop, physical
barriers like fences, netting, and screens are installed.
g.Flooding: When rice is grown, flooded fields can suppress the
germination of weed seeds by drowning them.
h.Mechanical harvesting: Crop wastes that could be home to pests or
illnesses can be eliminated by timely and effective harvesting
techniques.
