Software

Software is the set of instructions (also called a program) that guides the hardware to
operate effectively.

Types of Software

A. System Software – Any software required to support the production or execution

of application programs, but which is not specific to any particular application.
Examples of system software are operating systems and device drivers. Common
operating systems include Windows, the Macintosh OS, OS/2 and UNIX. Device
drivers are software needed for specific hardware to function well with a computer
such as printers, speakers, etc.

B. Application Software – Designed to help the user to perform singular or multiple
related tasks.

1. Word Processing
Ms Word, Notepad, Mcwrite
2. Spreadsheet
Lotus 123, MS Excel
3. Database Applications
MS Access, etc.
4. Graphics Designing
Photophop, Corel, Paint, etc.
5. Video Editing Software
Sony Vegas, Filmora, Movie Maker, etc
6. Entertainment Software
Games, Media Players, etc
