Harper's Playground
This video is about a father who helps design the parks of the future with inclusive playground
equipment that makes play accessible to all. Watch the video and answer the following
questions (ensure that each response is a minimum of 45 words):

1. What inspired Cody to become a playground expert and focus on building inclusive
playgrounds?

Cody got inspired to became a playground expert because of his daughter's mental
illness

2. What are some of the problems with traditional playgrounds?

The problem with traditional playgrounds is that its no meant for everyone.

3. How does Harper's Playground design address the issue of accessibility for children with
disabilities? (Ex. children in wheelchairs)

It helps them because its MEANT for disabled kids so there isnt stuff that are challenging for the
disabled kids because it was built for it

4. How does Harper's Playground encourage social interactions and play among children
of different abilities, ages and interests?

Ages is because they are disabled and if they think its hard then its their fault

5. What is the design feature of the playground that allows a care-giver and their child to go
down the slide together?

6. What are the benefits of a spiral walkway in a playground design?

for children with disabilities to access and use the playground (Ex. ramps and wheelchair
accessible equipment).
● An inclusive environment goes beyond accessibility and ensures that it is welcoming and
accommodating for people of all backgrounds and abilities including those with
disabilities. Inclusive playgrounds may include accessible features, but also include other
design elements such as natural play elements, open spaces, and opportunities for
social interaction.
