Read the following passage and mark the letter A, B, C or D to indicate the correct answer to each of the
questions.
Bullying leads to a decrease in academic performance. A study by CDC researchers showed that 12.9%
of teenagers who missed school due to safety concerns feared bullying.
Victims of bullying may also avoid participating in class for fear of drawing attention to themselves and
getting bullied. They may then become labelled as low achievers, putting them at an even higher risk of being
targeted by bullies.
Like all forms of bullying, physical bullying can cause emotional change. It makes the victims feel
unconfident and think less of themselves. This leads to feelings of shame, isolation, and despair. Moreover, the
child may lose interest in playing or activities they previously enjoyed and engage in harmful behaviour, such as
self-harm. These actions lead to more negative feelings and thoughts, creating a self-destructive cycle. In
victims with existing depression and anxiety, bullying can make these conditions worse. Besides the physical
injuries, victims may get from the attacks, they may also develop health issues, such as somatization.
Somatization includes physical symptoms caused by psychological or emotional factors. For instance, the child
may complain about headaches, body pain, or tiredness.

homes, office buildings, parks and roadways, cooling surface temperatures. They also take in and evaporate
water, (1) ______ cools the air around them. Secondly, trees absorb carbon and remove pollutants from the
atmosphere. Trees also reduce energy costs by $4 billion a year, according to Nowak's study. "The shading of

Tourism will always have an impact on the places visited. Sometimes the impact is good, but often it is
negative. For example, if lots of people visit one place, then this can damage the environment. The question is -
how can we minimize the problems without preventing people from travelling and visiting places?
The main aim of ecotourism is to reduce the negative impact that tourism has on the environment and local
people. The idea is to encourage tourists to think about what they do when they visit a place.
It's great to talk about protecting the environment, but how do you actually do this? There are a number of key
points. Tourists shouldn't drop litter, they should stay on the paths, they shouldn't interfere with wildlife and
they should respect local customs and traditions.
Some people see ecotourism as a contradiction. They say that any tourism needs infrastructure - roads, airports
and hotels. The more tourists that visit a place, the more of these are needed and, by building more of these, you
can't avoid damaging the environment.
But, of course, things aren't so black and white. Living in a place of natural beauty doesn't mean that you
shouldn't benefit from things like better roads. As long as the improvements benefit the local people and not just
the tourists, and the local communities are consulted on plans and changes, then is there really a problem?
In 2002 the United Nations celebrated the "International Year of Ecotourism". Over the past twenty years,
more and more people have started taking eco-holidays. In countries such as Ecuador, Nepal, Costa Rica and
Kenya, ecotourism represents a significant proportion of the tourist industry.

question.
When he was nine years old, Felix Finkbeiner gave a class presentation on climate change. The young
German spoke about deforestation and its effect on the planet. At the end of his talk, he challenged the people
of his country to help by planting one million trees. Nobody thought much would come of a nine-year-old’s
school project. Before he was 20, however, Finkbeiner’s efforts had resulted in the planting of more than 14
billion trees around the world.
Finkbeiner and his classmates began the project - named “Plant-for-the-Planet” - by planting the first tree
outside their school. Other schools followed the example, and news of the one-million challenge spread. As a
result, Finkbeiner was asked to speak at the European Parliament. Other invitations soon followed, and when he
was just 13, he spoke at a United Nations conference in New York. “We cannot trust that adults alone will save
our future,” he said in the speech. “We have to take our future in our hands.”
Finkbeiner is now in his twenties, and Plant-for-the-Planet is an organization with around 70,000 members.
It works to teach people about climate change and to encourage the planting of more trees. Germany’s one
millionth tree was planted long ago. The goal now is one trillion - 150 for every person on Earth.

Read the following passage and mark the letter A, B, C or D to indicate the correct answer to each of the
questions.
In the past hundred years, biodiversity around the world has decreased dramatically. Many species have
gone extinct. Extinction is a natural process; some species naturally die out while new species evolve. But
human activity has changed the natural processes of extinction and evolution. Scientists estimate that they are
dying out at hundreds of times the natural rate.
A major reason for the loss of biodiversity is that natural habitats are being destroyed. The fields,
forests, and wetlands where wild plants and animals live are disappearing. Land is cleared to plant crops or
build houses and factories. Forests are cut for lumber and firewood. Between 1990 and 2005, the amount of
forested land in Honduras, for instance, dropped 37 percent.
As habitats shrink, fewer individuals can live there. The creatures that survive have fewer breeding
partners, so genetic diversity declines.
Pollution, overfishing, and overhunting have also caused a drop in biodiversity. Global climate change -
the latest rise in the average temperature around the globe, linked to human activity - is also a factor. Warmer
ocean temperatures damage fragile ecosystems such as coral reefs. A single coral reef can shelter 3,000 species
offish and other sea creatures such as clams and sea stars.
