Objectives of the Activity:


● To spread awareness about fundamental Physics and Chemistry concepts.
● To introduce simulation-based learning.
● To help the students understand the pH scale and its significance in identifying acidic
and basic solutions.
● To provide the students with hands-on experience in differentiating between acidic and
basic solutions based on their pH values.
● To encourage the students to develop an interest in engineering, science and
technology.

Activity Conducted:
Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering in association with IEEE SJEC
Student Branch and IEEE TEMS society conducted an outreach program on 4/7/2022 at
Government Primary School Thiruvail for 6th and 7th standard students (around 25 in total) on
science related topics.

The topic covered are as follows:


1. Classification of solutions as acid and based, based on PH level.
2. Identification of natural pH indicators.
3. Demonstration of chemical displacement reaction using iron and copper sulphate.
4. Demonstration of the working of spectrometer.
5. Generation of magnetic field,
6. Diffraction and reflection using prism.
7. Transfer of energy using simulation tools.

This program was well appreciated by the students and faculty of the school.

Learnings:
● Improved communication and interpersonal skills by effectively explaining scientific
concepts to the students.
● Facilitating of hands-on learning activities.
● Improved leadership and teamwork skills by working collaboratively with the
organizers and other participants of the outreach program.
● Developed a sense of social responsibility by contributing to the education and
empowerment of the local community.
