March is the third month of the year. It comes after February and before April.

There are thirty-one days in March. In the northern hemisphere, the season of spring
begins on March 1st and it is the beginning of autumn
in the southern hemisphere. March is named after
Mars, the Roman god of war. Symbols of March
include the daffodil, rabbits, hares, lambs and
chicks. Important celebrations in March are Saint
David’s Day and Saint Patrick’s Day. St. David is the
patron saint of Wales and his day is celebrated on
March 1st. Welsh people hold festivals and parades
on that day. Many children go to school in traditional
dress and they sing the national anthem. St. Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland and
his day is celebrated on March 17th. This day is a public holiday in Ireland and is
celebrated in many countries. Again, people hold festivals and parades and put on
concerts with traditional Irish music. Many people wear green and they carry
shamrocks. Sometimes, Pancake Tuesday is in March and that depends on
when Easter occurs. March, the first month of spring, is a time when the
weather in the northern hemisphere starts to get better. The leaves come back on the
trees, vegetables and fruit grow and many animals have their young. There is an old
saying about March - ‘in like a lion, out like a lamb.’
