Environmental matters are taken way more seriously today than they ever did in the past decades.

The ice is melting, and the sea levels are increasing continuously. The wildlife is being ruined. The
global is warming. Not only in a certain part of the earth, but globally. Which is very concerning. And,
if the world does not take a step immediately no one going to be happy with the consequences.
Therefore, actions need to be taken by both governments and individuals.

Some believe that governments are in charge to stop the damage and find the solutions. Which
might help a lot, especially by setting strict regulations on the citizens and manufactures. By doing so,
individuals will take environmental issues seriously. Also, they can fine companies that do not follow
the restrictions to put an end to this whole situation. Furthermore, the government’s role is much
bigger than just setting rules, they need to participate in this move alongside with the citizens to
make this change happen. Moreover, governments need to change the way they get rid of trash, they
need to sort them first and find the proper way to deal with each type of waste instead of throwing it
all in the ocean and destroying the marine life. Most importantly, governments workers should apply
these rules on themselves first. Nonetheless, if the governments cooperated with each other’s by
setting an international law related to the environment, the earth going to recover sooner than
expected. For example, when people were forced to stay home, and the factories shut down during
the pandemic the ozone hole got smaller according to the scientists.

On the other hand, others argue that individuals must take the lead in this change for reasons like
they claim that governments are responsible for the environmental damage more than anyone else
is. To illustrate, University of Bahrain has stopped the students bus services. Which affected the
student directly that some of them quit university because they didn’t have driving license, cars and
they couldn’t afford to pay for private transportation. However, the majority of students were forced
to drive, which resulted in causing more traffic jams and more air pollution of course. Apart from
this, the change should start from us and the way we live, our very small movements can change a
lot. There are so many environmental organizations that were formed by individuals and these ones
exactly have a larger impact on people, that today nearly everyone is aware of the dangers we might
face in the near future thanks to the campaigns that were organized by citizens. In addition to that,
the private sector is benefiting from this movement too, as a lot of businesses market themselves as
eco- friendly and even allocate a percentage of their profits to donate for environmental purposes,
so that they target people who care about the planet.

To sum up, I believe that governments and individuals share this responsibility equally. As, the
individuals complete the government’s role by sticking to the rules. While the government should
encourage their citizens to be more eco- friendly by rewarding them instead of just punishing them.
Cooperation is way more powerful than random work, especially that the planet needs our help.
