from work. Sometimes he takes a bus to and from work but the route the bus takes covers a
distance of 9 kilometres to work and the same from work. The bus costs $200 each trip.
Part (i)
If Sam walks to and from work five days per week, how many kilometres does he walk? [3 marks]
John walks 12km per day. That is, he walks 6 km to work and 6 km back home.
2 x 6 = 12km per day.
Now, being that John works 5 days for the week, It means that he walked 60 kilometres for the
week.
5 x 12 = 60 km.

Part (ii)
For the month of November, John took the bus 20 times in the morning and the same number of
times going home. How much he did he pay in bus fare for the month? [3 marks]
For the month of November, John takes the bus 40 times. That is, 20 times to work and 20 times
from work to home.
2 x 20 = 40
Since each trip on the bus costs John $200, the total bus fare he pays for the month is:
40 x $200 = $8,000.
Part (iii)
In December, John walked 20 times to work and the same amount of times from work to home.
How many kilometres did he walk in all? [3 marks]
John walked 40 times for the month of December. That is, 20 times to work and 20 times from
work to home.
2 x 20 = 40 times.
As for the total distance he walked for the month:
Since he covers 6 km each time he walked and he walked 40 times for the month, the total
kilometres he walked for the month is 240.
6km x 40 times = 240 km.

Part (iv)
During the month of January, John rode the bus for 207 kilometres. How many days times John
rode the bus? [3 marks]
Remember that the bus travels a route of 9km to work and the same from work. Therefore, the
amount of times John rode on the bus in January is:
207/9= 23 times

Part(v)
John prefers to have his distance travelled in metres . How many metres did John ride the bus for
in January? [3 marks
Remember that 1 km = 1,000
