To ensure your growth in different forms of literacy, it might be helpful for you to start
keeping a Media Log. This is a reflective and critical journal of your reading and media
experiences. You may record your responses, reactions, and other insights about your
encounters with various reading texts and media forms. This project may help you be
more conscious of what you choose to “imbibe” around you as you keep track of
information that you read, view, listen, and/or discuss in your daily lives. Your media
log should include a copy of the sample forms of media you have read, viewed, or
listened to (e.g. an excerpt from an article, a picture of a poster, a clip from a movie, or
other materials)

EARTH, IT ALSO PLAYS A BIG PART IN EVERY YOUNG PEOPLE'S LIFE NOWADAYS AND IN THIS COMMERCIAL
IT WILL SHOW HOW THIS AFFECTS THE SELF-ESTEEM OF A YOUNG GIRL. THIS DOVE ADVERTISEMENT IS ALL
ABOUT A 13-YEAR-OLD GIRL WHO DOES NOT HAVE SELF-ESTEEM AND IS NOT CONFIDENT ENOUGH TO
SHOW HER REAL BEAUTY IN THIS SOCIETY ESPECIALLY ON SOCIAL MEDIA. A YOUNG GIRL WHO USES
RETOUCHING APPS TO DISTORT THE WAY THEY LOOK ON SOCIAL MEDIA AND THE PRESSURE TO POST A
"PERFECT SELFIE" JUST TO IMPRESS AND REACH THE STANDARDS OF THIS SOCIETY. THE DOVE SELF-
ESTEEM PROJECT CAN SHOW YOU HOW TO HAVE A SELFIE TALK WITH YOURSELF TO REVERSE THE
DAMAGE AND LEARN TO CELEBRATE AND APPRECIATE THE REAL BEAUTY THAT YOU HAVE.

Dove company created this message in alignment with its dove self-esteem project which was created
from a vision where beauty is a source of confidence and not anxiety. Their mission is to ensure that
the next generation grows up enjoying a positive relationship with the way they look—helping young
people raise their self-esteem and realize their full potential.

2. What creative techniques are used to attract my attention? (Mondia)


The creative techniques that caught my attention watching this commercial are the content itself and
the caption they used because as a woman who is also exposed to the standards of social media, I can
relate to the story of this 13-year-old young girl and just reading the caption of this commercial made
me realize how true it is that there are a lot of teenagers and other women who measure their beauty
base on what they see on social media or base on the standards of this society. This commercial also
uses a cinematic filter which is why it looks like you were just watching a trailer of a movie. As dove
company uses a commercial that will inspire their viewers and just seeing this commercial, I already
know that it will inspire their audience. The title of this video also attracted my attention which is
"Reverse selfie" because it made me think about what this title means and what is the message.
