Write no more than 150 words for the summary paragraph, and no more than 150 words for the
personal response paragraph about Reading 2 'Living Outside the Box'

SUMMARY:

In the writing, “Living outside the Box”, the writing master determined to live without a
TV as an experiment and finally enjoyed the profits of it. First, she lived without TV for a
month in summer. However she wanted to not see the TV as a whole daily time. So the
author survived a cold New England winter without it hand decided to live alone for
choosing how to live. As times go on, she didn’t know when her favorite shows were on.
Therefore, she can’t take part in communication with co-workers. Eventhough, she
could get many positive changes in her life. For example, she called friends, readbooks,
slept easy and did volunteer work more often. Now, she has more free time for herself
and she is satisfied with her new lifestyle. She is confident that he can watch TV in
moderation in the future.

PERSIONAL REPLY:

Living without TV as an experiment would be a good experience in her case. Firstly, we

need to talk about the latest news on TV with other persons. If we should not see the
TV, we know the recent news and trends on TV program and communicate with our
friends. The author take part in the conversation with her too. Secondly, living without a
TV can cause loneliness when we are a student. When she came back to the room after
the work, she could feel the serious lonesome and cheerlessness. Because living alone
is too calm and lonely. Finally, TV brings positive impacts to our lives such as
educational information and ease in daily life. In her case, she should offer instructive
TV program and helpful things to her children on the future. The author was able to get
many good points through the experiment of living without TV in winter. Although living
outside the TV as a whole life cannot be done for many effective functions of television.
