IV. PROCEDURES

A. Reviewing previous Activity 1: Remember me?

lesson or presenting the
new lesson As a sort of review, let the students identify whether the given is an
algebraic expression, linear equation or a linear inequality.

1.) 2x + 5y
2.) 3p - 6s = 13
3.) t + 6r> -2
4.) 6z + 1 ≥ 3(x-5)
5.) r = 2t - 5y

Can you still recall the characteristics of Algebraic expressions?

Linear Equations? How about linear inequality?

B. Establishing a Let the students analyze the situation. Explain how important is linear
purpose of the lesson equation to real life situation.

Situation 1: Ram bought a hambruger with his 100-peso bill. If the

change was 65 pesos, how much should the hamburger cost?

Answer: Let's represent the cost of the hamburger as x pesos.

Ram paid with a 100-peso bill, so the cost of the hamburger plus the
change should equal 100 pesos:

x+65=100

To find out the cost of the hamburger, we can solve for x:

x+65=100

x=100−65

x=35

So, the hamburger should cost 35 pesos.

Situation 1: John has 10 pesos and wants to buy some candies that
cost 2 pesos each. Let's represent the number of candies he can buy
as c. How many candies can he buy using his money.

Answer: The total cost of the candies can be represented as: 2c

Since John has only P10, we can write an inequality to show that he
can't spend more than he has: 2c ≤10
Solving for c: 2c ≤ 10

2c/2 ≤ 10 / 2

c ≤ 5, therefore John can buy at most 5 candies with his

P10.

Procesing Questions:

1. Have you encountered situations in your life the same as the

situtations you have answered today?

2. Did you use the same technique in finding the missing variable?

C. Presenting Activity 2: Observe me!

examples/instances of the
new lesson Observe how the linear equation and inequalities are grouped
accordingly. Answer the following question.

Group A Group B

2x + 2y = 4 5x + 4 = 12

7p = 3q (2p + 5) y - 3 = 15y

4r + 5w > -7 5h - 3 < 12

y ≤ 6z s + 5 ≥ 13s

Processing Questions:

1. How many variables are there in group A? Group B?

2. How are the given equations and inequalities grouped together?

D. Discussing new To present the lesson, ask the students the following questions:
concepts and practicing
new skills #1 1. What have you observed with the number of variables we are
dealing with in our last discussion?

2. How about the number of variables we are dealing with from the
latest activity we got?

LINEAR EQUATION AND INEQUALITY IN ONE VARIABLE

A linear equation or inequality that has a maximum of one variable.

Linear Equation and Inequality has the following characteristics:

 only one variable

 it is in the first degree variable

 no variable in the denominator

 no variable inside a radical sign

E. Discussing new
concepts and practicing
new skills #2

F. Developing Mastery Activity 3: Am I the One variable?

(Leads to Formative
Assessment) A. Write LINEAR EQUATION if the given expression describes a linear
equation in one variable. NOT LINEAR EQUATION if it's not and write
the reason behind of being not a linear equation.

B. Write LINEAR INEQUALITY if the given expression describes a linear

inequality in one variable. NOT LINEAR INEQUALITY if it's not and
write the reason behind of being not a linear inequality.

C. Provide your own example of a linear equation and inequality in one

variable.

Linear Equation: _____________ Linear Inequality: ______________

G. Finding practical Group the students into three. Let the them analyze the problem:
applications of concepts
and skills in daily living Jane has P50. She wants to buy some candy that cost 2 pesos each.
After buying the candy, she wants to have 30 pesos left. How many
candy can Jane buy?

Processing Questions:
1. Can you right away answer the word problem?
2. How did you find the answer?

H. Making Let the students complete the statement:

generalizations and
abstractions about the In this lesson I have learned that linear equations and inequalities in
lesson one variables are ___________________.
