TARGET HOMEWORK

“Investing in You”
Level:9b+
Name: Year Group: Subject:
Science

Assigned Date: Due Date: Evaluation Date:

19th January 2024 23rd February 2023 29th February 2024
Targets:
1. Analyse the experimental result (Do the experiment/Research) and write a short
note on your observation /Collect varieties of plant pictures and write the properties
of each.
2. Explain some ways in which plant varieties are created.

Support resources:
All the required resources will be available in the assignment.

Target 1

1. Music and Plant Growth? Scientists are still figuring out if music affects plant growth. Some
think it might, but we need more research to be sure.
2. Plants and Electricity? Yes, plants can conduct a bit of electricity through their cells, but not as
much as metals.

Teacher: Ms. Shajeena. TERM 2- TARGET SETTING HOMEWORK

3. Does Caffeine Help Plants Grow? Caffeine can either boost or hinder plant growth, depending on
factors like seed germination and photosynthesis.
4. Which Insects Do Carnivorous Plants Like? Carnivorous plants prefer certain insects based on
size, movement, and what nutrients they offer. Different plants have different preferences.

Target-2

1. Breeding IR36 Rice:

 Start with IR8 and Tadukan, also TKM6 and TN1.
 Combine resulting plants to get IR1561.
 Cross IR1561 with a pest-resistant variety.
 Cross the offspring with CR94-13 to make IR36.
2. Fill in Box Information:
 Write about parent plants used in each step and what traits they had.
3. Why IR36 Helped Poor Farmers:
 Short and fast-growing.
 Good grain quality.
 Fought off pests and diseases.
 Gave more reliable harvests for farmers with fewer risks.

Teacher: Ms. Shajeena. TERM 2- TARGET SETTING HOMEWORK

1. W1581:
 Small, fast ripening.
 Resistant to bacterial blight, and stem borer.
 Not resistant to grassy stunt, tungro.

 Small, high-quality grain.
 Resistant to grassy stunt.
6. TNT:
 High yield, resistant to bacterial blight and stem borer.
 Fast ripening.

1
b. Cross varieties D and B to breed a short wheat variety with a high yield.
c. B likely evolved from A through selective breeding for improved traits.
d. Steps:
 Select desired traits from variety A.
 Cross-pollinate with high-yielding A plants.
 Repeat selection for short stature and high yield.
 Continuously assess offspring for desired traits.
