Sicilian Defense – The Grand Prix Attack

Our main setup:

Let’s start from the main position you’ll get.

We play 8.Qe1, 9.Qh4, 10.f5 (or f5 first then Qh4), we imagine we’re Morphy, and
game over

Step 1 Step 2

8…Bg4 – The variation with Rook sacrifice

(Or 8.f5 first) Who cares for the Rook?

The Passive 4…e6

2 Rules:

1: In Sicilians, when the Black pawn stays on e6, and we haven’t played Bc4 yet,
it goes to b5. If the b5 square is occupied – it goes to g2.
2: After playing Bb5, if we can ruin the pawn structure, we do it, without
waiting.
2…e6

We go f4, Nf3, and then we decide what to do with the light-squared Bishop.

4…de4

We have a few plans, depends on the opponent’s move.

If possible, we get rid of the light squared Bishop.
If 5…Nc6

If 5…a6

We don’t develop the light-squared Bishop, as we have enough recourses to

finish the game. Especially the monster Bishop on b2.
4…d4

Our rule in action

We get rid of the light-squared Bishop with Bb5.

If 5…Nc6 we have rule 2.

Rule 2: If we can ruin the pawn structure, we do it without waiting.
If 5…Bd7, we take it. Then the Knight goes to g3 through e2, and we start attack
on the kingside.

Step 1 Step2 Step 3

Good luck with your romantic games

Avetik
