Reflections on the Cross

(SA) “Man of sorrows!” What a name for the Son of God who came
Ruined sinners to reclaim! Hallelujah! What a Savior!
(TB) Bearing shame and scoffing rude in my place condemned He stood,
Sealed my pardon with His blood; halleluhah! What a Savior!

Jesus, keep me near the cross – there a precious fountain;

Free to all, a healing stream flows from Calv’ry’s mountain.
In the cross, in the cross be my glory ever –
Till raptured soul shall find rest beyond the river.

(TB) On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross,

The emblem of suff’ring and shame;
(SA) and I love that old cross where the dearest and best
For a world of lost sinners was slain.

(All) So I’ll cherish the old rugged cross

Till my trophies at last I lay down
I will cling to the old rugged cross
And exchange it someday for a crown.
