1. INTRODUCTION
This Installantion Manual contains information about installing, operating and using the Chlo-
ride TRINERGY Uninterruptible Power System (UPS).
This equipment must be installed and operated by qualified personnel, who are advised to read
this document before starting.
Thereafter, it must be kept and referred to whenever it is necessary to carry out work on the
UPS.
2006/95/EEC
Directive of the council for adaptation of the legal regulations of the member states regarding
electrical equipment for use within specific voltage limits (superseding the 73/23/EEC and suc-
cessive amendments).
2004/108/EEC
Directive of the council for adaptation of the legal regulations of the member states regarding
electromagnetic compatibility (superseding the 89/336/EEC and successive amendments).
Conformity is established through compliance with the following standards:
• IEC/EN 62040-1
• IEC/EN 62040-2
Additional information regarding adherence to these directives is included in the appendices
NSR and EMC of the Declaration of Conformity. If needed, the Declaration of Conformity can
be requested from Chloride.
Warning
Indicates instructions which, if not observed, may result in danger to life, safety, the
reliability of your device or data security.
Notice
Indicates additional information and tips.
1.3.4. Display
Control panel that includes: graphical symbols and data to show the status of the machine;
push buttoms to operate the UPS.
1.4. Documentation structure
These instructions may be supplemented with additional sheets, describing specific exten-
sions or options.
2. OPERATING MODES
2.1. Functions
Trinergy incorporates the three existing standard topologies in one transformer-Free UPS:
Battery operation:
in this operating mode, the connected load is supplied from the batteries. In the event of pow-
er failure, battery operation is automatically activated and supplies the loads without interrup-
tion. If the power failure lasts longer than 30 s, the UPS signals a fault condition.
From this operating mode, the UPS automatically returns to VFI operation within the backup
time once the mains supply returns. If the power failure lasts longer than the loads can be sup-
plied by the battery, the UPS provides relevant information via its interfaces. Computers can be
automatically powered down with additional software (optional) (see Fig. 4 - on page 8).
Maintenance bypass:
in this operating mode, the connected loads are supplied directly from the mains supply. The
touch screen LCD is disabled.
Maintenance Bypass is used to supply the connected loads during maintenance work on the
UPS (see Fig. 5 - on page 9).
Warning
To avoid overheating inside the UPS, do not operate the unit with the rectifier run-
ning, the Inverter switched off and the Bypass switch open for extended periods.
The UPS can also be used as a frequency converter for 50/60 Hz or vice versa.
KEY TO SWITCHES:
• QS1 = PRIMARY MAINS INPUT
• QS2 = BYPASS MAINS INPUT
• QS3 = MAINTENANCE BYPASS
• QS4 = UPS OUTPUT
• QS9 = BATTERY CIRCUIT INPUT
• QS14 = MAINTENANCE NEUTRAL SWITCH (Normally closed - for maintenance purposes
only)
The UPS System is made by several cores. Each core is a complete UPS.
The number of cores depends by the rating of the UPS.
2.3.1. Components
2.4. Commissioning
2.4.1. Forming
If the UPS devices have not been used for a period of more than one year, the intermediate cir-
cuit capacitors must be reformed. If the UPS devices are commissioned within one year after
delivery (check nameplate), this action is not necessary.
Danger
Do not connect any devices that may overload the UPS or draw direct current from
it.
Notice
If these instructions are not observed correctly, problems may be experienced
with the electrical supply.
2.4.3. Connect the batteries
Before the system starts, ensure that the UPS battery connections polarity is correct.
Wrong connections can damage the system and endanger operator safety.
This operation must be carried out by authorized personnel and with the external
battery disconnected. Once the touch screen LCD shows that the rectifier is “ON”,
close the battery switch (QS9) on the UPS. The voltage on the UPS side of the exter-
nal battery isolator device must be the same polarity as the battery voltage checked
before leaving QS9 open with the battery connected. Once the polarity has been
checked it is possible to close the external battery isolator device and QS9 when the
rectifier is “ON”.
3. MAINTENANCE
3.1. Maintenance intervals
In order to keep the equipments at its nominal reliability, Chloride recommends that regular
maintenance checks be carried out on site by an authorized customer Service once or twice a
year. Details of the required checks are provided by the Service organization.
Note:
The typical useful lifetime of the battery varies from 3 to 5 years, depending on the ambient
temperature and usage.
3.4. Decommisioning
3.4.1. Taking out of service
Switch to service bypass:
• Switch the UPS to Maintenance Bypass operation (see Table 4 on page 17)
Disconnect batteries:
• Open the external battery isolator or battery switch (if present).
• Before continuing work, check the voltage at the battery terminals and at the mains
input and wait until these have dropped below safety values. Failure to do this may lead to
severe electrical shock.
