I am writing to express my interest in the doctoral program in the department of LIFE SCIENCES AND

ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES at Trent University, Peterborough Ontario. I am willing to apply for Ph.D.
Science and interest go connected at the hip. From my youth till today, my most exceptional attributes
have been my interest to learn new ideas with each and every day. My fascination for learning novel
thoughts when joined with my internal craving for new ideas. It prompted me to the flood of SCIENCE in
my secondary school. During my formative years in school, I was acquainted with the idea of
"Fundamental" science and on how science can be identified with our everyday life. From that point, I
got entranced about science. Interest prompts development and advancement prompts science. After I
entered secondary school, I realized the essential idea of science. Along these lines, my youth interest
drove me to the department of Human Genetics in Guru Nanak Dev University at Amritsar in Punjab.
With Human Genetics as my significant, I investigated, different fields of hereditary qualities and
constructed my crucial idea about Fundamental Chemistry, Cytogenetic, Microscopy, Physiology,
Anatomy, Biochemistry, Evolution, Fundamental Genetics, Molecular biology. During my graduation
I,completely appreciated each subject of my field and subjects which I zeroed in on more were
Biochemistry, Cytogenetic and Molecular Biology, as the crossing point of human hereditary qualities
and exploration is the enthusiasm of mine and I gained exposure to research in various techniques such
as DNA, RNA extraction and quantification, PCR, Agarose Electrophoresis and ELISA. Individual decisions
in addition to subjects of my interest assumed key place in my vocational choice. I appreciate securing
new information and ideas which assist in understanding the human body and nurture my distinct
fascination towards advancement with open possibilities which would give me consistent impetus to
develop myself and to acquire further information.

I have consistently had a wide assortment of interests which have driven me to learn new things. Being
an inquisitive and dexterous individual I had an opportunity to complete my Masters also from a same
institution. Willingness to take suggestions and modifications, new techniques shows my inspiration
about exploration and learning. I took an interest in co-curricular activities and university events. I did
my duties in a mindful, reliable dependable way. I was trusted with the position of The President of my
department which rendered me towards administration and professional networking.

During my final year of Masters I had my dissertation entitled ‘’Genotyping Analysis of Rs11003125
(G>C) Single Nucleotide Polymorphism of MBL2 In Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus’’under supervision of Dr.
Manpreet Kaur, Assistant professor, GNDU. The complement system plays major role in providing
critical proportion against microbial infection, in addition, studies have indicated an inverse relationship
between certain components of complement pathway and insulin action. MBL plays an important role in
immune response along with the metabolic pathways. Different variants of MBL2 have been evaluated
and susceptibility towards T2DM in various population rs11003125. DNA quantification was performed
using agarose gel electrophoresis. To estimate DNA concentration, the fluorescence intensity of
unknown samples was compared with lambda DNA of known concentration (500 ng/ul). Genotyping of
rs11003125 (L/H) was carried out in 41 T2DM patients and 41 healthy control using ARMS-PCR method.
PCR product of 316bp was obtained for either of the allele. All three expected genotyping i.e. HH, LH, LL
were obtained. The comparison of allelic distribution between T2DM cases and controls indicated high
frequency of L allele in patients (78.048%) when compared to control (65.85%). In conclusion, the
outcome of the afore mention study indicates protective association of L/H variant of MBL2 towards
T2DM susceptibility. However, the results were not statistically significant, which was attributing to the
small sample size employed in the study. Keeping in view pathology, further studies can be carried out.
At Trent University, I aspire to learn and develop and seek my enthusiasm also. I assure that my
experiences and aptitude that I have developed during the course of my graduation studies will have a
profound effect in your research group.

With careful perusal of your website I am assured that the Trent University is the best suited institution
to pursue my PhD. What energizes me more about this position is that, it includes broad work in cell and
molecular biology .Working under your expertise would just be the random meet-up of opportunity,
dream and its realization and I pledge putting my insights and abilities to be used as a profitable part in
your science department and learn from the best in the organization. In a meeting I couldn't want
anything more than to you examine my short and long term career plans and how they line up with the
current exploration. I am ready to fill in a thought provoking, testing and strong climate so as to be
coached by specialists inside the field. I will put in my sincerest effort and utilize my abilities towards the
group and individual undertaking alike. Please feel free to contact for any further queries. I appreciate
you for your time and consideration.
