CORE COMPETENCY 2: Set-up Computer Networks
I N T R O D U C T I ON

The unit of competency “SET-UP COMPUTER NETWORK” is one of the competencies of COMPUTER
SYSTEM SERVICING NC II.
In this module 2.1 covers the unit of competency, “Setting up Computer Networks, this
contains training materials and activities related to install Ethernet cables, set network
configuration, set router/Wi-Fi/ wireless access point/repeater configuration as well as to inspect
and test the configured computer networks.

At the end of the lesson, the students are expected to:

1.IP ADDRESS It is a numerical label assigned to each device connected to a computer


network that uses the Internet Protocol for communication.
2.CONFIGURE Refers to how its components are arranged, and how its option is set.
3.CMD PROMPT It is used in a text-based or command line, such as Unix Terminal or a
DOS shell.

4.DHCP It is a network management protocol used to automate the process of


configuring devices on IP networks, thus allowing them to use network
such as DNS, NTP, and any communication protocol based on UDP or
TCP.

Step 3 : Click “Use the Following IP address”, then enter


192.168.1.20 (or any desired number in the last two digits)

Step 4 : Click OK. This will save the setting for that computer. This
computer is now configuring on your network with a unique IP
address.

Step 5 : Open the internet, click “Protocol Version 4 properties” on


the next computer to open the “Protocol Version 4(TCP/Ipv4)”
windows.

Step 6 : Click the start button in the left lower part of the monitor,
then search for “cmd prompt”

Step 7 : Type “ping 192.168.1.20”.(if you see the word REPLY then
the configuration is successful)
