Hi, my name is Adriana Piñeiro Varela and today I’m gonna talk about the six wives of Henry

VIII.

The main character in this story was Henry VIII. He was the king of England between 1509
and 1547. A lot of people know that he’s famous because he married six women in 38 years,
but he did another important things to the history of his country like separate the Church of
England from papal authority and, also, he appointed himself Supreme Head of the Church of
England.

But we are not going to focus on him and we are gonna talk about his six wives.

1. CATHERINE OF ARAGON
She was Queen of England as the first wife of King Henry VIII.
She was born in Spain and she married the big brother of Henry, who was going to be the king
but he died after three years of marriage so Catherine married Henry to keep the relationship
between Spain and England.
She gave birth to Mary I of England also known as Bloody Mary.
Henry cheated on her a lot of times so after 24 years of marriage they got divorced and their
divorce was the cause of the separation of the Church of England.

2. ANNE BOLEYN
Anne was Henry’s second wife. Henry and Anne were together even when he was with
Catherine. She gave birth to Elizabeth I of England, also known as the Virgin Queen because
she died without children.
Henry thought that she was cheating on him with her brother so, she was beheaded, they cut her
head. One point, she’s my favorite of the six women and her story is so sad b ecause nowadays,
we don´t know a lot of things of her. We didn’t even know how was her face, and as an
interesting fact, we have one coin that have her face on it but the coin is so destroyed so we
don´t know what she looked like.

3. JANE SEYMOUR
Jane was Henry’s thirth wife and it is said that she was the only Henry truly loved.
She died after a year of marriage giving birth her son the future King Edward VI.

4. ANNE OF CLEVES
Three years after Jane’s death, Henry needed a new wife. He saw Anne’s portrait and he was
like: oh, she’s a pretty girl, i’m gonna marry her.
Anne was form Germany so she didn’t even speak English, but she travelled to England and she
married Henry.
Henry was disappointed because she was not what he expected and she was not pretty enough
to him, so after 6 months they got divorced and she went back to Germany.

5. CATHERINE HOWARD
She was only seventeen when she married Henry, and she wanted to do things as a teenager.
Henry didn’t like it. After a year and a half, Henry said that she was cheating on him so she was
beheaded. Some facts are that she was cousin of Anne Boleyn and they died in the same way,
and, when she married Henry, she was younger than Henry’s first daughter Mary I.

6. CATHERINE PARR
She was the last wife of Henry, and she was like a survivor, because Henry died before her, and
then, this is a curious fact, she married the brother of Jane Seymour, the thirth wife.
