MY CAREER

CIVIL ENGINEERING
TUESDAY 11 OCTOBER 2022

HOW I THOUGHT OF IT
It wasn’t actually my idea but I was told
about the career by my mate. So then I
researched about it online then I saw that
it was what I was supposed to do in the
first place.

In Grade 6 2019, I thought of an idea of

making electricity using sand which no
one in my age in this country cannot think
of it made a little sense though, I have
got to give my self credit though. In
grade 7 2020, I named it Lithos Power
because sand is part of the lithosphere
which also make scenes.

In grade 8, I didn’t give my ideas so I just

modified things according to new things
that I learnt. Then in Grade nine, 2022 I
renamed and recreated the whole thing
because it didn’t make sense anymore
because we learnt new things so the
whole idea of using sand was nonsense
so I named it Circular-Hydro Power
because it will be using water but its kind-
of similar to Hydro Power but more of an
improvement of it.

So after all these years and all of this

experience I finally found my career
because I always thought of a Chattered
Accountant, then a Mechanical engineer
now a Civil engineer which the perfect
career for me I believe.

THE DIFFERENT KINDS OF WORK THAT
SOMEONE DOES IN CIVIL ENGINEERING
Civil engineers often specialise in one area, such as
transportation (roads, airports, railways), environmental
(flood barriers, turbines), geotechnical (mining and
earthworks), maritime (ports and sea defences) or structural
(dams, pipelines, offshore platforms).

As a civil engineer you could be:

1. Assisting with site investigations

2. Assessing the worth and potential risks of projects
3. Developing blueprints using computer-aided design (CAD)
4. Liaising with architects, subcontractors, consultants, co-
workers and clients
5. Ensuring projects meeting legal requirements and health
and safety standards
6. Resolving design and development problems
7. Managing budgets and other project resources
8. Attending public meetings to discuss projects
9. Using computer modelling software to analyze surveys and
mapping data
10. Preparing project bids and reports
11. Assessing a project’s environmental impact and
potential risk
12. Monitoring project progress and ensuring it meets
legal and health and safety requirements
13. Working on-site in all weathers or in an office.

I would like to do all that work and I will stay true to my self
and not to be a dirty person so I will not except bribes while I
can put lives in danger just like the dam wall collapse in
Free-State (September 2022) so I will do like wise
