In Part 1 of this exercise, you will use the roadmap to review an example of Prepare phase
activities and drill down to Project Governance.

On the right side of the page are several branches that go to activities for the Prepare stage. Read
through these. Click each Prepare branch to investigate.

Click the branch: Project Initiation and Governance.


Click: Establish Project Governance and read about the procedure for establishing project
governance.

In Part 2 of this exercise, you will review two possible solutions for different stakeholders.

Explorer and search for content in your language.

In the Language dropdown menu, choose Francais. Et Voilà! You will see French.

Now use the dropdown menu to choose your native language.

Not all solutions are translated into all languages, but many translations are
available.

Activity: Identifying delta and


customer pain points
What are pain points? Problems! Pain points are problems your customer is
experiencing that affect their business somehow. If it's a sales company, maybe
their existing solution needs to provide analytics. Perhaps it doesn't allow users
to see inventory in other locations, or it's approaching end-of-life, and they need
a replacement. What about the delta? What is that? The delta is the gap between
the problem and the solution.

After reading the following scenario, discuss how you might identify your
customer's pain points and close the delta. You are welcome to search the
internet for clues about business pain points – a wealth of information is
available.

You are working with a locally owned, neighborhood, full-service retail grocery
store. In addition to groceries, they have a butcher block, deli, and bakery. The
store's sales and inventory processes are not automated, and they have no way
of tracking sales. They manually count their inventory, and if an item is not on
the shelf, they log onto the vendor's website and order it.

Thinking about customer engagement, discovery, and analysis methods, how


might you engage with this customer to discover their processes and determine
their pain points?

Is there a particular method you would use?

Why or why not?


What suggestions would you make that might open their mindset to the
possibilities of a technological transformation that would improve their
processes and close the delta between pain points and an ideal scenario for
them?
