Question: Do you think scientists should continue to work towards
cloning a version of mammoth?
I believe that scientists should carry on working towards cloning a
version of mammoth. The reintroduction of mammoths could help with the problem of climate change and global warming by protecting the permafrost. It could help the permafrost by creating natural process by which they once maintained this frozen layer beneath the soil. With the way of stepping on the soft snow with their large feet, mammoths packed it into a solid layer to keep the cold air in and create permafrost. If the permafrost melted, a dangerous amount of carbon dioxide would be realeased into the atmosphere, even resulting in global warming. In addtion, restorinng the natural balance in the ecosystem of Sibera and other areas also has some positive impacts on the environment. The grasslands where mammoths used to graze could become empty forest, which changes the ecosystem in ways that may not be maintainable in the long run. Mammoths also help sustain the growth of these forests, help to maintain grassland and mak sure that the area remains a healthy and various living habitat for a wide range of species. In a nut shell, by going on styding the DNA of mammoths and their ecological influence, scientists could make informed decisions on how to safely and ethnically bring these magnificent creatures back to life.
