year)
The teacher takes attendance while students do their warm up.
Students sit in front of the teacher after they finish their warm up.

Body (15 min):

Learning Activity #1: Service Review and practice

Have students remind you of best service practice.

Service Rules:
1. The head of the racket must be below your waist when the face strikes (hits) the shuttle (no overhand serves)
2. You must be behind the service line when serving (it is the closest white line parallel to the net)
3. Your serve must go over the net and pass the oppositions service line
4. Serves must go cross-court during game play, unless playing half-court singles. (note: we do not worry about this rule
as we never play full court singles or doubles)
Best Service Habits:
1. Use VOS grip when serving
2. Serve low to the net when serving short
3. Serve high when serving deep

Give students 3 minutes to serve with a partner like last lesson.

Transition
- Blow the whistle twice (signals to students to freeze and come gather where the teacher is)
Learning Activity #2: Demo and Explain Rallying

Explain and demo the proper way to rally with a partner (starting with a proper serve)
Rally - Explain and Demo
1. Stand across the net from a partner, only one person has a shuttle
2. Serve the shuttle following the service rules
3. Partner attempts to hit it back before it hits the ground
4. Continue hitting it back and forth as long as possible
Transition
Have students spread out along the badminton courts and nets
Learning Activity #3: Rallying Practice
Have students grab a partner and spread out along the 4 badminton nets
Students can then rally as described above.
Continue this for the rest of class time.

Teacher will move around the space and provide effectively, timely feedback to students as they rally with their partner.
Transition
- Blow whistle once and have students put away their equipment and line up at the door.
Modifications/Accommodations
Grade 1-2:
- Longer on the review and more than 3 minutes to practice serving. (approx. 4-5 minutes, depending on the class)
- Will hit the shuttle back even if the serve is not proper
- Can adjust and have grade 1 still use balloons if struggling to make contact with the shuttle
Grade 3-5
- N/A
Closure (3-5 min):
- Have students show you with a thumbs up or thumbs down if they enjoyed today
- Then have students put away badminton rackets and birdies
- Students can then go line up at the door
- Teacher says go job to students and gives them fist bumps after
Transition To Next Lesson:
- Next lesson will be net play.
Reflection on Lesson
Grade 5:
- Students were engaged and everyone was on task
- Some students made it into a competition against their partner and others made it a competition between themselves
trying to beat their record each time
- Students responded well to teachers feedback and applied this to increase their success
Grade 3:
- Students were all on task and trying their best during the activities
- Students responded well to teachers feedback and attempted to apply it
- I focused more on serving with these students and gave them more practice time in serving
- Then at the end of the lesson the could rally
Grade 4:
- Students got a lot of time to rally as they were listening and on task
- Students were trying their best and applying feedback the teacher gave
Grade 1:
- I focused on serving with these students more, so it was a second lesson to serving since they struggled getting the
shuttle over the net
- I then allowed students to try and rally for those that could
Grade 2:
- I gave students more time to practice their serving so that they could be successful for rallying
- Students enjoyed the rally and tried their best
