Math 9 Linear Equations 8:45 - 9:25 March 26, 2024

PROGRAM OF STUDY OUTCOMES

● Transfer information from table of values into a graph

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson students will be able to:
1. use an equation to fill in a table of values
2. use the table of values to graph
MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT
● have extra copies of the worksheet in case
● cards
● multiplication fact chart
● graph paper
● timer from portable
● rulers from portable
● clipboard from portable for math facts recording sheet
PREPARATION AND LOGISTICAL CONSIDERATIONS
● have 99 Math page up - they can pull up the page before O Canada
● have multiplication table open in another tab, blooket open
● EASTER JAR FOR GUESSES
● bring cards to computer lab
● get stuff from portable
● print off sudokus, puzzles
● find KJ and IH worksheets from yesterday - look in/around desk?
● make seating arrangements - have seating arrangements projected, write down 99 Math
website/code on the board
● REMINDER: JS needs to finish quiz - see if other students still need to submit corrections
PROCEDURE
Introduction Time
● Attendance, O Canada - make sure students are following seating arrangement
● when students arrive, they can make their guesses?
● 3 minutes of 99 Math - order of operations (students will sign in before
announcements)
o I have been doing order of operations with 99 Math to go along with our
linear equations unit. When dealing with 2 step equations, students need
to be able to carry out order of operations.
o Have Mrs. L click to next round
o I will circulate and (optional) play along to compete with the kids 8-10 min
● 5 minutes of cards - math facts
o give one evaluation sheet to Mrs. L - we will try to eventually get
through the entire class, starting with 2x facts.
o when listening to a student do their math facts, time them and record how
many mistakes they make (top box: write ‘x’ for each mistake, bottom
box: record time) - make sure that their deck of cards looks close to a full
deck.
o we are working on math facts to make solving equations more efficient
2

● A minute before cards is up, hand out one piece of graph paper to each student
Body Time
Short Instruction - Today I will just introduce how to plot points from a
table of values onto a graph (should hopefully be
review). Follow powerpoint, remember to talk about
- identifying x and y axes
- how to find ordered pairs in a table of values
- how to plot points on a graph (x, y)
- Show the world map with latitude and longitude, and
how it looks like a coordinate plane - does anyone
10-15 min
know why?
- now show map of Canada - make an estimate of the
GPS coordinates of Burdett (see next slide)
- STUDENTS WILL TAKE NOTES ON THE GRAPH
PAPER - show them the step by step, and how to tell x
axis from y axis (x = cross = across; y to the sky).
always x then y - follow notes from emailed pdf

Worksheet 1) JS - QUIZ; corrections?

2) Continue working on the worksheet from last class -
Note: yesterday we were working on filling out a table
of values when given an equation (and either x or y
values) to work with (basically just substitution)
3) 2 of them handed it in already and I marked them.
When they got an answer wrong within the table, I did
not identify which one was wrong (they will have to
check themselves). These students will make
corrections IN BLUE in this class, and then draw the
8-10 min
corresponding graphs on a separate sheet of graph
paper.
- graphs will be headed by the corresponding
equation
- x and y axes will be labeled (‘x’, ‘y’, and
numbered)
- coordinates will be labeled (ie. (2, 4))
- do this for questions #1, 5, 6, 8, 11, 12
Extra: Sudoku, KenKen, or Magic Squares (folder)

Conclusion Time
● Blooket for last 5 minutes (stop worksheets around 9:18)
o theme: linear equations (with some simple multiplication questions) 7 min

Assessment
● 99 Math, cards, blooket (formative & practice, warmup, working on multiplication facts -
could potentially use math fact recording sheet as summative), worksheet (summative)
