Philosophy of Education 2

Philosophy
I have very eclectic Philosophies of Education. For example, my most dominant

philosophy is Progressivism at 28, Existentialism at 27, Perrinalism at 25, and Reconstructionism

at 24. I believe that education should be based on active learning by focusing on students who

are learning how to problem solve, gain decision making skills, and know how to explain their

ideas with their own words. The curriculum should be focused on a student's interest because it

helps the student feel engaged in what they are learning. I also believe that effective instruction

should take into account the whole child's individual needs based on cognitive, affective, and

psychomotor areas. I would also like to have a strong relationship with all of my students so I

can effectively teach them.

Facilitator’s Role
I will be an effective facilitator by helping students reach their potential, foster positive

relationships, and I will use various forms of assessment. I will help students reach their full

potential by identifying students’ strengths, building on existing knowledge and skills, and

situating education in the students’ lives. I will also foster positive relationships with all of my

students by utilizing my humor within the classroom, attending and hosting student events, and

spending one-on-one time with students. Additionally, assess students with informal assessments

like games, maintain a portfolio on each student, and group activities to challenge the students.

Alongside informal assessments, I will also utilize formal evaluations like quizzes, tests, and take

advantage of any online resources for learning and calculating quantitative data.

Instruction
In my opinion, the classroom should be a blend of teacher and student centered learning.

Teacher guided instruction with the freedom of organized choice. I also think that collaboration

is a great way to allow students to work on social skills and learn how to work together. For

example, allowing time for small group discussions and implementing project-based learning

when appropriate. Additionally, I think lesson modification is very important to ensure that every

student receives a quality education. Learning every student's individual needs and designing a

curriculum that will challenge them correctly is a very important goal of mine.

Technology
My classroom will utilize technology very often because it is an easy way to modify

instruction for every student. I would incorporate the Smartboard throughout the day by using it

to show videos, timers, and the lesson. The Smartboard can link to the student's tablets and I plan

on doing this to help with focus during the time I am speaking in front of the class. The tablets

can also be used to take photos to submit to software like Canvas. Also, the tablets can easily be

used for the students to record themselves reading or speaking the new sight word. For lessons, I

would use videos from websites like YouTube and GoNoodle. I will deploy any software that the

district provides and integrate it within the lesson for things like exams and turning in

assignments.

Classroom Environment
My classroom is a bright, colorful, and cheerful environment. The seating arrangement

will be five desk pods with four students in each pod. This will help with mixed-ability grouping

activities and games we will play in class. There will be math, science, and writing stations.

Additionally, there will be a spot for small group instruction and a meeting mat where students

will have a designated seat spot for group reading lessons. I will have many anchor charts from

lessons that we have discussed in class. Alongside that, I will have detailed posters to

complement the curriculum we are covering.
