Grade 2-UOI Planner-2022/23:

Theme: How the world works

13th -17th March,2023.

Central Idea: : Materials have properties that can be changed to be used in different ways .

Lines of Inquiry:
▪ The properties of materials. (form)
▪ The changing states of matter. (change)
▪ How humans use different materials. (connection)

Learner Profile: Inquirer, knowledgeable

Key Concepts: Form,change,causation

Related Concepts: : Classification,Transformation,Processes

ATL: Research and Communication Skills.

Making flexible use of resources: (How will resources add value and purpose to learning? – for all learning this means: the thou
and beyond the learning community, to enhance and extend learning, including - time, people, places, technologies, learning sp

● Related unit books

● Google jam board
● PowerPoint.
● Padlet.
● Classroom space.

Teacher’s Questions/ Provocations:

• What are materials?
• what different materials do you know of?
• How would you describe this material without saying its name?
• Are materials the same or different in their texture, size, and shape?

● How do materials change

• What are the different states of matter?
• How do we use materials differently?
• What are irreversible changes in materials?
• What are the different materials you see in the classroom?

● How do you know they are different from one another?

Resources: Related videos to be shown to the students.

Inquiry Tools to be available during the UOI: Spider web, mind maps flip chart, graphic organizer.

Differentiation: Choice board, variety of reflection tools to be used by students, breakout rooms, group work.

Week 5-Going Further

Learning Engagement#1: The big Question-What is matter? The three most
common states of Matter-Research Work-Monday/Tuesday
Learning Objective: To ensure the students understand what is matter and it’s
three states namely Solids, Liquids, Gases.
Targeted Learner Profile: Inquirers, Knowledgeable
● Task: - Monday –Students watch carry out their Research work with the
help of Tablets in the class. They shall find and gather information and
record it in their Research Sheet.
● Students to be divided in groups or if they would like to work in pairs
keeping in account the number of Tablets we can borrow from the ICT
Lab.Usually, I take 5 tablets which caters to 5 groups of students.
● Research Questions will have to be written on the white board for the
students to keep their research on track and make it meaningful.
● Tuesday-Continuation of the same research work-The students can
complete their research, draw pictures and then will gather and assimilate
the information and draft it on their Research sheet. Lastly all the groups
will come up and present their findings.
● Pictorial evidence to be taken and shared on the digital platform.
Questions to focus can be:
• What do you understand by the term Matter?
• Where do we find Matter?
• Give examples of matter?
• What are the most common states of matter?
• How can we differentiate between the three states?
• How are the molecules packed in all the three states of matter?
• Students to do their collaborative work and draft a reflection at the end of
the lesson.

● Reflection Tool: VTR: A4 size Plain sheet to record their observations–

Reflection sheet for their reflection-ATL-communicating skills. (Listening
and speaking skills) ●Reflection to be drafted by the students and shared
in the class with their peers.

Research skills:
● To observe and gather information

Targeted Concept: Form.

Learning Engagement#2: Multi-Media Lesson-Viewing of the Video-

Media Room-Wednesday.

Resource: Video to be shown to the students.

Video Link:
https://youtube.com/watch?v=JQ4WduVp9k4&feature=share

Video Title: States of Matter-What are the states of matter.

● Task: Students will view the video clip by using the watch, pause and discuss
strategy and draft a reflection.

● Questions which will evoke their thought process:

• What is Matter?
• How many stated does matter have?
• How can we explain Matter?
Give few examples of Matter.
Can we change the states of Matter?
What have you learned during your first line of Inquiry?
Think about the videos you saw, the activity you did as a class, the
discussions you had and then jot down all the points to present in the
class.
Targeted Learner Profile: Communicator: Inquirer, knowledgeable
Reflection Tool: Students will do a self-reflection.
Students after doing their
Video Reflection Sheet. group work will draft their
findings on the reflection
sheet.

They will present their

Learning Engagement#3: Creating an understanding in front of
their class.
Anchor Chart-States of Matter.
• Students to be shown the anchor chart
on the projector and they will create
their own Anchor Chart-Agency to be
given whether they shall be working in
groups, pairs or individually.
• The characteristics/properties of the 3
states of matter to be identified through
the anchor chart.
• Illustrations to be made along with the
information.
•. Students to present their Charts in the
class or the Media Room.

Learning Engagaement#4: Weekly

Reflection-Task: What did I learn during this week?
Discussion to be carried out with the students to recall their weekly activities:

▪ What is our theme related to?

▪ What was our LOI#2 about?
▪ What are the key words we discussed in our LOI#2?
▪ What is our Line of Inquiry#2 about?
What did you learn
this week?

The images to be shown to the students while unfolding the

second line of Inquiry.

Matter has 3 most common States-Sold, Liquid and Gas.

How the molecules are packed differently in all the 3 states.

• Monday-Media Lesson-Video about three states of matter to be shown.

• Wednesday-Media Lesson- https://youtu.be/wclY8F-UoTE
• Friday-Media Lesson- https://youtu.be/Tu6JAjmPXyQ

After three videos are viewed by the students, they will write a reflection for
each one of them.

The students can write, draw or make comic strips for showing their
understanding of a video clip.
How the states of matter change from
solids to liquids and liquids to gases has to
be mentioned during class discussions.

We can the images for a clear

understanding.

Note for the

teachers:

Three Media Lesson-For this week 3 videos

have been planned-they will be shown during
the Media Lessons and reflections to be
drafted respectively followed by a detail class
discussion.
