Location ❏
Vietnam is located in southeastern Asia.
Vietnam is situated on the Indochinese
peninsula and borders Cambodia, China
and Laos.
❏ The capital city of Vietnam is Hanoi.
❏ Vietnam has a coastline of about 3,444
km/2,140 miles length - not counting in
the many islands!
❏ Vietnam is roughly the size of New
Mexico/USA and about half as big as
France.
Capital
❖ Hanoi is Vietnam's capital city. It
is situated in the country's North.
❖ The buzzing city is Vietnam's
major trading centre for
centuries and it is fascinating to
discover the historic past of the
city.
Trade
❏ The main trading partners of Vietnam are China, Japan, South Korea and the
USA.
❏ Exports from Vietnam include clothes, shoes, electronics, seafood, crude oil
and rice.
❏ The main imports include machinery and equipment and raw materials for
their manufacturing industries.
❏ The main agricultural products are rice,
Vegetation coffee, tea, pepper as well as soybeans,
cashews, peanuts and rubber.
and ❏ The forest vegetation includes six major
types: (i) evergreen and semideciduous
Wildlife broad-leaved forests, (ii) deciduous
forests, (iii) bamboo and palms, (iv)
coniferous forests, (v) open broad-leaved
forests, and (vi) scrub.
❏ The rich diversity of Vietnam's wildlife
includes 11,400 species of vascular
plants, 1030 species of moss, 310
species of mammals, 296 reptile
species, 162 amphibian species, 700
freshwater species of fish and 2000
species of marine fish.
❏ There are about 889 species of birds and
310 species of land mollusks.
Cuisine
❏ Vietnamese cuisine features a combination of five fundamental tastes in
overall meals.
❏ Each Vietnamese dish has a distinctive flavor which reflects one or more of
these elements.
❏ Vietnamese recipes use lemongrass, ginger, mint, Vietnamese mint, long
coriander, Saigon cinnamon, bird's eye chili, lime, and Thai basil leaves.
❏ Traditional Vietnamese cooking is greatly admired for its fresh ingredients,
minimal use of dairy and oil, complementary textures, and reliance on herbs
and vegetables.
❏ Vietnamese food is considered one of the healthiest cuisines worldwide.
Attire
❏ The national traditional dress in
Vietnam is the ao dai, a silk tunic
with pants worn by women and
men.
❏ Ao dài are worn for special
occasions including Tet, the new
year celebration.
❏ Since the twentieth century,
Vietnamese people have also
worn contemporary clothing that
is popular in many places in the
world.
Currency
❏ The Vietnamese dong.
❏ The dong is the official currency in
Vietnam, although it arrived in
different times to North Vietnam and
South Vietnam, before the unification
of the country.
