• Assignment 01 has been developed based on Unit 01 of the course MHZ4377. The aim
of the Assignment 01 is to determine whether you have attained the following learning
outcomes of the course MHZ4377: Applied Statistics,

– Explain Two main branches of statistics,

– Use statistics to summarize data.

 To determine the factors influencing the computer vision syndrome(CVS), a study
was undertaken among IT officers working at various IT companies in the Colombo
area . Choose five IT businesses, distribute a questionnaire at random, and gather
the information. 30 IT officers participated in this study. You may imagine your-
self to be a part of the project’s statistical analyst team.Your findings must be
presented to management. Use the MHZ4357database.xlsx data sheet to complete
the assignment. You can create the graphs and charts using MS Excel.

1. (a) What is the target population of this study.
(b) Identify the sample of this study.

2. (a) Identify qualitative and quantitative variables in this data set.

(b) Identify scale of measurements of each variable in this data set by discussing mea-
surement characteristics of each variable.

3. Obtain suitable outputs to describe the composition of the sample with respect to each
qualitative variable ( Consider one qualitative variable at a time). Interpret your findings.

4. Use a stem and leaf diagram to summarize and present the data of the variable ” Age”.
