ANAPHY LAB Week 5.

5: Muscular - muscle contraction: myofilament

Tissue interaction (2 protein filaments of
MUSCULAR TISSUE - Cells, Types, myofibrils in muscle cells involved in
Parts and Characteristics muscle contraction)
- Histophysiology - myofilament: thin (actin) and thick
- Location and Types of Muscle (myosin)
Tissues

- aggregates of specialized, elongated

cells arranged in parallel array
TYPES OF MUSCLE ACCORDING
- specialized because it can contract,
TO CONTRACTILE CELL
stretch depending on the muscle
APPEARANCE
- elongated because it is longer than
other cells • STRIATED MUSCLE
- Skeletal
- multinucleated syncytium (pwede
magkaroon ng more than one nucleus ) - Visceral Striated
- Cardiac
- there is striation
- sarcomere: is the smallest functional ➢ MUSCLE FIBER
unit of a striated muscle located in - Fascicles (functional unit) - bundle of
between two Z line fibers (collection of muscle fiber)
- responsible for creation of striation of - types: red, white, intermediate
the muscles
- red: has high concentration of
myoglobin, high number of
• SMOOTH MUSCLE mitochondria, aerobic, slow twitch,
- you cannot see striation in muscles more fatigue resistant
because it is not arranged into - white: low in myoglobin, low number
sarcomere of mitochondria, glycolytic, fast twitch,
- it still has thick and thin filaments it is fatigues rapidly
not just visible
- intermediate: intermediate myoglobin,
high mitochondria, fast twitch,
combination of red and white so it is
aerobic and glycolytic, fatigue resistant
➢ SARCOLEMMA: cell membrane of a
muscle cell
- consist of lipid bilayer
- thin outer coat of polysaccharide - I & A band: responsible for striation
material - A band: dark
- contacting basement membrane - I band: light

CONNECTIVE TISSUES OF
SKELETAL MUSCLE
• ENDOMYSIUM - delicate; surrounds
each muscle fiber
• PERIMYSIUM - surrounds fascicle
• EPIMYSIUM - surrounds the entire
muscle
• SKELETAL MUSCLE
➢ MYOBLAST: an embryonic focarser
of myocytes (muscle cells)
• SARCOMERE - the smallest
functional unit of a striated muscle
- repeating unit
• SATELLITE CELLS - precursor of
skeletal muscle, responsible for tissue
regeneration
- myoblast when specialized, it can be
satellite cells

• MYOFIBRILS: bundles of protein

filaments that contains the contractile
elements of myocardials
• MYOFILAMENTS: 2 pairs of
myofibrils
• SARCOPLASMIC RETICULUM:
membrane bound structure that is
found within muscle cells that is similar
to SER (smooth endoplasmic
reticulum)
electrically excited cells, to provide
electrical conduction and propagation
impulse

• SMOOTH MUSCLE
• CARDIAC MUSCLE
- Thin and thick filaments
- Centrally located nucleus
- Desmin (protein encoded by Ds
- Numerous large mitochondria and
GENE, muscle specific, to regulate
glycogen stores are adjacent to each
muscle architecture) and vimentin
myofibril
intermediate filaments (type 3
- Intercalated discs: complex structure intermediate filament, maintain cellular
that connects cardiac muscle integrity, stabilize cytoskeleton
interaction, provide resistant to avoid
cell damage) (both important for
smooth muscles because it is
involuntary)
- Dense bodies: anchoring site for
active filaments

- Purkinje fibers: specialized

conductive fibers composed of
- longitudinal section - longitudinal cut
- no striationsav - cross section of a smooth muscle - has two muscles
- malapit sa laman na part
- skeletal and smooth

- under jejenum
- cross section
