The Resistors
Experiment No. 1
Objectives:
1. To measure the total resistance of the circuits using a multimeter.
2. To know the difference between parallel and series resistor in a circuit.
3. To understand the relationship between voltage, current and resistance.
Materials:
NI Multisim Software (Student Version)
Procedures:
1. Run NI Multisim Software and create electric circuit resistor based on problem solving
in Lesson 3.
2. Locate for Multimeter-XMM1 in the right-side of the software
3. Place the Multimeter-XMM1 and resistors into the breadboard with designated
values.
4. Connect the wires in a series/parallel connection to the Multimeter-XMM1.
5. Set the Multimeter-XMM1 into resistance value to measure the total resistance in a
series/parallel connection.
6. Before running the program, make sure to place and connect a ground in the
breadboard.
7. Thereafter, run the program/software to simulate.
𝑹_𝐓 = 𝟐𝟎𝟎𝟎Ω

2. What is the total resistance if a 800 Ω resistor is connected in parallel with 1000 Ω and 200
Ω resistors?
Figure 2
Figure 2 also shows a circuit with resistor but connected in parallel composed of 800Ω,
1000Ω and 200Ω resistors. By computing the total resistance of the parallel resistors, we use
𝟏 𝟏 𝟏 𝟏
the formula 𝑹𝐓 = 𝟏/(𝑹 + 𝑹 + 𝑹 + ⋯ 𝑹 ) or the Multimeter-XMM1 in the NI Multisim

software. Therefore, we obtained a total resistance of 137.931Ω.
