1. What is the importance of legends, myths, and other


literary genres you have learned in the present society?

5. Motivation WORD BUILDING!

Prepare two sets of paper. One set have base words written on
them, and the other set has prefixes or suffixes. Then,
randomly hand each student a piece of paper. Their goal is to
form a meaningful with their seatmate by using the prefix,
suffix, or base word found on their paper. Afterwards, they
have to come up with five new words by adding affixes to the
base word. They may write their answer on the paper. These
words are then evaluated by the class.

2. Analysis How do you identify affixes?

Why is it important to use affixes?

3. Abstraction An affix is a letter or group of letters, for example ‘un-’ or ‘y’,


which is added to either the beginning or the end of a word to
form a different word with a different meaning.
A prefix is an affix which is placed before the stem of a word.
Adding it to the beginning of one word changes it into another
word.

A suffix is a letter or a group of letters that is added to the


end of a word to change its meaning or to form a different
word.

A root word has no prefix or suffix — it's the most basic part
of a word.

4. Application SCAVENGER HUNT!

In a group, students will search for their prefix/suffix using


text made available to them which can include books,
magazines, posters, newspapers, etc. Students can make a list
of the found words and then discuss them – what the words
mean and how the prefix or suffix changed the meaning of the
base word.
