DIVISION MEMORANDUM
No. _______, s. 2024
In light of recent health concerns and the potential risks associated with this habit, we
hereby announce the prohibition of betel nut chewing within the premises of all schools
under the jurisdiction of Nueva Vizcaya.
Betel nut, often combined with tobacco and lime, is a widely consumed stimulant in many
cultures. However, its detrimental effects on health cannot be overlooked. Research has
shown a strong correlation between betel nut chewing and various health issues,
particularly oral cancer. The combination of areca nut alkaloids with tobacco in betel quid
increases the risk of oral submucous fibrosis, a precancerous condition, and oral squamous
cell carcinoma.
It is our responsibility to ensure the well-being and safety of our students, staff, and visitors
within the school premises. Therefore, the prohibition of betel nut chewing is implemented
to safeguard against the potential health hazards posed by this habit.
We urge all members of our school community to adhere to this policy strictly.
We also encourage everyone to educate themselves and others about the dangers of betel
nut chewing and promote healthier alternatives. Together, we can create a safer and
healthier environment for all.
