What is Teaching Plan

A writing noting the method of delivery, and the

specific goals and time-lines associated to the delivery
of teaching content.

It helps the teacher to know what to do in a class

(prepared by themselves) with quite specific activities

What is Teaching Plan

A Teaching plan is the instructor’s road map of what students

need to learn and how it will be done effectively during the class
time.
Before you plan your Teaching, you will first need to identify the
learning objectives for the class meeting.
Then, you can design appropriate learning activities and develop
strategies to obtain feedback on student learning

Principles of Teaching Plan

1 Provides you with a step by step guide to follow

2 States the learning objective(s)
3 Outlines the structure of the Teaching
4 Lists the resources required
5 Provides opportunities for explanation,
demonstration, practice, Q & A
6 Considers learning styles, equity issues,
support requirements

Objectives of Teaching Plan

Curriculum operation starts from systematic writing of teaching

plans to increase the effectiveness of classes.

Writing the Teachings, equipment, and materials of each week

will show the achievement of goals and prepare for the basis
of systematic supply and demand of equipment and material.

Objectives of Teaching Plan

Developing materials of practical class activities is essential to

improve educational effectiveness as the quality of
education is affected by excellent teachers and teaching
materials.

Teaching plans developed are utilized as a vivid teaching

materials by supporting up-grade through continuous
feedback, modification and complement of the plans.

Benefits of Teaching Plan

1. Helps you to stay on track

2. Helps to prepare for every step of the Teaching
3. Provides guidance for a substitute
4. Helps you save time in the future (if you recycle your
Teachings)
5. Helps you achieve your objectives
6. Helps to think in an organized manner
7. Inspires to improve future Teachings

Advance Organizers

A brief portion of a lesson given at the very beginning

to get students’ attention, activate prior knowledge,
and prepare them for the day’s learning. Also known as
advance organizer, hook, or set induction.

Advance Organizers are a model for helping students

organize information by connecting it to a larger cognitive
structure that reflects the organization of the discipline itself.
Developed by David Ausubel, Advance Organizers were a
“practical implication of his theory of meaningful verbal
learning.

Six Common Mistakes in Teaching Plan

1. Poorly written objectives 5. Teacher’s instructions are

lead to faulty inferences. inefficient
2. The teaching assessment is 6. Students activities do not
not connected with the contribute effectively to the
behavior indicated in the teaching objective
objective.
3. Prerequisites are not
specified or are
inconsistent with the
teaching requirements.
4. The materials specified in
the teaching are irrelevant
to those described
learning activities.

2. Process of Writing Teaching Plan

TVET Workshop at NSG

Step for writing Teaching Plan
1
Outline learning objectives

2
Develop the introduction

3
Plan the specific learning activities

4
Plan to check for understanding

5
Develop a conclusion and a preview

6
Create a realistic timeline

Step 1 : Outline learning objectives

To determine what you want students to learn and be able to do at

the end of class.

To help you specify your objectives for student learning,

answer the following questions:
1. What is the topic of the teaching?
2. What do I want students to learn?
3. What do I want them to understand and be able
to do at the end of class?
4. What do I want them to take away from this
particular teaching?

Step 1 : Outline learning objectives

Once you outline the learning objectives for the class meeting, rank
them in terms of their importance.

This step will prepare you for managing class time and accomplishing
the more important learning objectives in case you are pressed for
time.
Consider the following questions:
1. What are the most important concepts, ideas,
or skills I want students to be able to grasp
and apply?
2. Why are they important?
3. If I ran out of time, which ones could not be
omitted?
4. And conversely, which ones could I skip if
pressed for time?

Step 2 : Develop the introduction

Develop a creative introduction to the topic to stimulate interest

and encourage thinking. You can use a variety of approaches to
engage students
Consider the following questions when planning your introduction:

1. How will I check whether students know anything about the topic or
have any preconceived notions about it?
2. What are some commonly held ideas (or possibly misconceptions)
about this topic that students might be familiar with or might espouse?
3. What will I do to introduce the topic?

Step 3 : Plan the specific learning activities

Prepare several different ways of explaining the material (real-life

examples, analogies, visuals, etc.) to catch the attention of more
students and appeal to different learning styles.

These questions would help you design the learning activities you
will use:
1. What will I do to explain the topic?
2. What will I do to illustrate the topic in a different way?
3. How can I engage students in the topic?
4. What are some relevant real-life examples, analogies, or situations that can help
students understand the topic?
5. What will students need to do to help them understand the topic better?

TVET Workshop at NSG

Step 4 : Plan to check for understanding

Think about specific questions you can ask students in order to check for
understanding, write them down, and then paraphrase them so that you are
prepared to ask the questions in different ways

1. What questions will I ask students to check for understanding?

2. What will I have students do to demonstrate that they are following?
3. Going back to my list of learning objectives, what activity can I have
students do to check whether each of those has been
accomplished?

TVET Workshop at NSG

Step 5 : Develop a conclusion and a preview

Go over the material covered in class by summarizing the main

points of the Teaching. You can do this in a number of ways:
you can state the main points yourself (“Today we talked
about…”), you can ask a student to help you summarize them,
or you can even ask all students to write down on a piece of
paper what they think were the main points of the Teaching.

Conclude the Teaching not only by summarizing the main

points, but also by previewing the next Teaching.
