Learning Objectives
1.1. Define one- act play together with the various elements, techniques, and literary
devices in it; and
1.2. Write a scene for a one-act play applying the various elements, techniques, and
literary devices.
Learning Inputs:
A one- act play is a significant area of a play that contains the standard components
of action, climax, and resolution. It is a short play with complete stories. Most plays extend
from one act to five acts; however, the one-act play only has one but may comprise of one
or more scenes. One act-play was made shorter to solely fit the criterion for professional
competitions. Currently, an act that emerged in writing competitions and is known subgenre
of one-act play is the 10-minute play.
Elements of one-act play
• Plot- it refers the sequence of episodes or scenes; it has five essential parts
comprising of the exposition, rising action, climax, falling action and resolution.
• Theme – this focuses on moral or topic that gives a motivation to develop the story.
• Characters- an essential aspect to depict and perform to the one act play.
• Dialogue/ Language- the words use to deliver the position of the playwright concluded
by the characters in the play.
• Music/ Rhythm- it gives astonishment when the music is coupled to the events.
• Spectacle- these are the visual aspects of the play that includes the sets, costumes,
props, and special effects.

DIRECTIONS: Write a sketch of a part for the one-act play that you have written.
A craft essay is considered as beautifully crafted and orderly essay, a result of the passion
and interest of a person who writes. It can be classified as:
• Expository Essay- Expository writing encompasses a wide range of essay
variations, such as the comparison and contrast essay, the cause-and-effect essay
and the “how to “or process essay.
• Narrative Essay- The writer tells a real-life experience and try to give
readers a feeling of being part of the story by making the story as lively as possible
and written in the first person.
• Descriptive Essay- The best descriptive essays appeal to the reader’s emotions,
with a result that is highly prompting vivid memories or images, especially things from
the past.
• Persuasive Essay: The writer should present all facts and logic,
as well as examples, expert opinion, and sound reasoning to communicate
clearly why a certain position is correct.
