Target Games
Target games are games that require players to place objects in or close to targets in order
to score as high as they can. In order for the object to hit the target, the players must
propel it with extreme precision and control. For the purpose of keeping the other players
from scoring, the players ought to inquire as to how to guard the item.

Skills developed in Target Games:

Offensive skills: Rely on aiming accurately and placing the object precisely. This means
using the right force to control the ball's speed and direction, ensuring it lands close to the
target (cup, hole, or jack).

Defensive skills: Blocking the opponent's choices means using aim and accuracy to stop
the ball in a position that makes it harder for them to get a shot close to the target.

Social skills: Successful team passing depends on the synergy between the passer and
receiver. Emphasizing game scenarios over isolated practice helps children understand
when and why to pass, fostering a dynamic passing relationship.

Target games come in two forms: Unopposed and Opposed.

Unopposed Target Games - players focus on being as close as possible to the target.
Examples:
1. Golf
2. Archery
3. Bowling
4. Bocce Ball
5. Darts
7

Opposed Target Games - players try to prevent their opposition from scoring by
knocking or blocking their opponent’s ball into a less favourable position in relation to the
target. Examples:
1. Billiards
2. Croquet
3. Lawn Bowls

Target games that are considered combative sports:

1. Arnis
2. Taekwondo
3. Boxing
4. Fencing
5. Pencat Silat
6. Wushu
7. Muay Thai
8. Karatedo and/or Sole Fighting (Rapandapanan)

Darts
Darts is an indoor target game that originated in English inns and taverns in the 19th
century. It is played by throwing feathered darts at a circular board with numbered spaces.
Throwing is free-style.

Distance of Player from Dart Board - 7 feet 9.25 inches (2.37 metres)
Distance of Dart Board from the floor - 5 feet 8 inches (1.73 metres)

Scoring
The whole dart board has been divided into 20 sections and valued at points from 1 to 20.
Six rings determine the scoring:
● 50 points - an inner bull’s-eye

● 25 points - outer bull’s-eye

● 3x the number - a narrow triple-scoring ring

● 2x the number - narrow double-scoring ring

● 1x the number - a wide single-scoring ring and another wide single-scoring ring

"501 up"
● Tutorial Video
8

● Most professional matches are “501 up”.

● Objective: Start with a score of 501 and be the first to reduce it to exactly zero.

● Gameplay: Players take turns, throwing 3 darts each turn. Each player's turn score
is deducted from their total.
● Winning Condition: The last dart must land in a double or the bullseye to finish
the game.
● Bust Rule: Going to 1 or below zero makes the player's turn score bust, returning
to the previous total.
● Example: Needing 32, hitting a 16 then a 15 = bust, score returns to 32. It's not
necessary to use all 3 darts on the last turn.
