A DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN MATHEMATICS (ALGEBRA)

I. OBJECTIVES

At the end of the lesson, the students are expected to:

a) know the steps in adding fractions.

b) solve the problem that shows addition of fractions.

c) apply the concepts learned from this lessons to problems involving real life situation.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

Topic: Addition of fractions

References: Elementary Algebra by Julieta G. Bernabe, pp.55-58

Materials: Visual aids, power point presentation, chalk and board.

III. TEACHING STRATEGIES

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

A. Daily Routine

1. Prayer
Ok class please stand up and let us pray. (Pray)
(Name) please read the prayer.

2. Greetings
Good evening class. Good evening Ma’am.

3. Class Management
Before you take your seats kindly pick up (Picking pieces of papers and arranging chairs.)
the pieces of papers under your chairs. And
see to it that your chairs are properly
aligned

4. Checking of Attendance
Miss Secretary, will you kindly check the Yes Ma’am.
attendance.

5. Reminding the Assignment Given

I gave you an assignment yesterday, right?
Kindly pass it forward.

B. Preparatory Activities

1. Review the past lesson

Class, before we proceed to our new lesson, let Ma'am yesterday we had tackled about types of
us first have a review of our past lesson. Whose fractions.
still remember our topic yesterday?

Correct. What are the different type of Ma'am the different types of fractions are proper,
fractions? improper, mixed, and complex fraction.

Can you differentiate proper fraction from Ma'am, proper fraction is fraction whose
improper fraction? numerator is less than the denominator while
improper fraction is fraction with numerator either
equal to or greater than the denominator.

Very good. How about mixed number and Ma'am , mixed number is a combination of a
complex fraction? proper fraction and a whole number while
complex fraction is a fraction which the numerator
or denominator contains a fraction.
Very good .It seems you really understand our None Ma'am.
topic yesterday. Is there any question class?

2. Motivation

I have prepared an energy booster here. What

you need to do is to find or match the
illustration corresponds to the given fraction.
Example:

C. Developmental Activities

1. Presentation
Okay, class our topic for tonight is about
Addition of Fractions.

2. Discussion
Let us now proceed on how to add fractions. STEP 1.
Kindly read this. To add fractions with similar denominators, we
add the numerator and write the sum over the same
denominator.

Example

1) +
8 8

3 1 4 1
+ = =
8 8 8 2
Yes Ma’am.
Do you get it class?

Another example. 5 11 16 4 1
+ = =1 =1

STEP 2.
To add fractions with dissimilar denominators,
Very good. Next kindly read this. first find the LCD to rename the dissimilar
fractions to similar fractions and then add the
numerators and write the sum over the common
denominator.Reduce the result, if possible to
lowest term.

Ma'am if the denominators are the same, just add

the numerators and write the sum over the same
denominator.
3. Generalization

Small parts are necessary to make-up a whole.
