Reges Oceanfront Resort beaches to be smoke-free by June 1
This decision comes despite the recent veto on a smoking ban bill WILDWOOD CREST, N.J., March 31, 2017 – Reges Oceanfront Resort has declared that its beaches will be smoke-free by June 1. This comes as a response to Governor Chris Christie’s veto of a bill that would ban smoking on beaches, waterfronts, and public parks. The California Air Resources Board (ARB) released a report in 2005 where they adopted that “secondhand smoke is a toxic air contaminant.” A toxic air contaminant is an outdoor air pollutant that may cause or contribute to an increase of serious illness or death, or pose a hazard to human health. New York City Parks, which successfully banned smoking in outdoor spaces, found that “sitting 3 feet away from a smoker outdoors exposes you to the same amount of secondhand smoke as if you were indoors with the smoker.” Secondhand smoke can also trigger asthma attacks and increase the risk of blood clots. Anthony Mollica, president of Reges, hopes that the ban on smoking “will help New Jersey Legislature continue to fight for a smoking ban in public places.” More reasons behind this decision are to reduce waste on the beach and improve waterfront aesthetics, to attract more families to the resort, and to improve public health. ### About Reges Oceanfront Resort – Located in Wildwood Crest, New Jersey, Reges Oceanfront Resort is a family-owned and operated resort with over 40 years of service.
