Quarter 4 – Module 7:
Practical Board Wiring Exercises 3
(Week 8)
What I Need to Know

This module was designed and written with you, students, in mind. It is here to help
you familiarize the different board wiring exercises that a learner must experience.
The scope of this module permits it to be used in many different learning situations.
The language used recognizes the diverse vocabulary level of students. The lessons
are arranged to follow the standard sequence of the course.

This module covers the lesson on Practical Board Wiring Exercises.

At the end of the lesson, you are expected to:

1. determine the steps in installing four lamps controlled by 1-gang, 2- gang SPST,
3-way, and 4-way switches with duplex convenience outlet using rigid non-
metallic conduit;
2. illustrate the correct wiring connection of four lamps controlled by 1-gang, 2-
gang SPST, 3-way, and 4-way switches with duplex convenience outlet using
rigid non-metallic conduit; and
3. Appreciate the importance of determining the correct wiring connection of four
lamps controlled by 1-gang, 2-gang SPST, 3-way, and 4-way switches with
duplex convenience outlet using rigid nonmetallic conduit.

What’s New

There are so many wiring installations that can be done to enhance the learner’s skills
in electrical wiring. It could be a service entrance, outlet, and lamp installation. In
this lesson, you will be able to experience an installation of 4 lamps controlled by 1-
Gang, 2-Gang SPST, 3-way, and 4-way Switches with Duplex Convenience Outlet
using Rigid Non-Metallic Conduit.

2
What Is It

Installing four lamps controlled by 1-Gang, 2-Gang SPST, 3-way,

and 4-way Switches with Duplex Convenience Outlet
Using Rigid Non-Metallic Conduit

1. Analyze the pictorial diagram.

2. Outline dimensions (Refer to the measurements given by your teacher).

3
3. Mount the circuit breaker, utility, and junction boxes to their proper position,
using two screws per box.

4. Measure and cut the required length of the rigid non-metallic conduit and
install them using clamps.

4
5. Prepare the required length of the conductor. It may be if the length of the
tubing plus an ample allowance at both ends for splicing. Install them on the
pipe.

Note: Allowance must be at least 150 mm (6 in) long at both ends measured
from the ends of the tubing.

6. Prepare the conductor for termination. Strip off at least 5 mm of insulation for
terminals and at least 2 inches of insulation for wire splicing.

5
7. Make all necessary connections as required in the wiring diagram.

6
Wiring/Splicing Steps:
If you are required to do this installation, you must make sure that the power source
is turned off. It is better to interpret first the diagram above by tracing its lines of
connectivity. Below are more specified steps to help you understand the diagram.

1. Panel Board with Circuit Breaker

a. Insert the line 1 and line 2 wires to the lower terminals of the circuit breaker.
b. Insert the wires from fixtures 6 (duplex convenience outlet) into the lower
terminals of the circuit breaker.
c. Insert the line source from the service entrance into the upper terminals of the
circuit breaker.

2. Junction Box with Receptacle A

a. Insert the line and return wires into the terminals of receptacle A.

3. Junction Box with Receptacle B

a. Insert the wires from fixture 1 (circuit breaker) into the terminals of receptacle
B. b. Insert the first return wire into the terminals of receptacle B.
b. Tap the wire (white) from receptacle A to the wire of receptacle B.
c. Splice the return wire (black) from receptacle A to the second return wire
(black).

4. Junction Box with Receptacle C
