respectively. If a passenger at one of the airports is found to be carrying a weapon through the
boarding gate, what is the probability that the passenger is using airport A?

QUESTION A6 (5 marks)

In a university cafeteria, 50% of the students choose French fries as their side dish whereas
60% choose salad as their side dish. If 20% of those who ordered French fries did not choose
the other side dish, find the probability that two students chosen at random,
(a) both choose neither of these two side dishes.

(a) In a certain university, 52% of all students take a statistics class, 23% take a

(a) A manufacturer of widgets has four assembly lines A, B, C and D. The


percentages of output produced by the lines are 30%, 20%, 35% and 15%
respectively, and the percentages of defective units they produce are 6%, 3% 2% and
5%.
(i) Represent the above information in a tree diagram.

(ii) If a widget is selected at random from the stock, if the widget is defective, what
is the probability that the widget came from the assembly line C?

(b) The table below shows the counts of projects undertaken by AT&T and IBM.
