Over 11,00,000 IT engineers graduate in India

every year.

But there are less than 50,000 fresher

openings!

Is IT engineering even worth it in present

times?

The IT sector was once considered the largest

white-collar employer in India.

But currently, fresher jobs in the sector are

disappearing.

TCS, Infosys and Wipro have announced that

they will not be visiting campuses to hire
freshers.

But this decline in jobs has not just impacted

recent graduates.

Freshers from previous batches are suffering

too.

Lakhs of graduates from the 2021-23 batches

received job offers from companies like TCS,
Infosys, Wipro, Tech Mahindra, Capgemini,
Cognizant, Accenture, etc.

Yet many of these folks are sitting at home

waiting for a joining date.

Engineers with job offers dating back to

September 2021 claim that IT companies
have not put them on the roll yet.

Companies are expecting these engineers to

sit tight until a project comes up.

Engineers who got a joining date are not doing

that well either.

Fresher salaries across major IT companies

have remained stagnant at around
₹3,60,000 - ₹4,00,000 for over a decade
now.

In the same time, CEO salaries have shot up

to 1500%.

But why don’t IT companies pay their freshers

well?

Companies say that it is because freshers

don’t have the required skills and need to be
trained before being assigned to a project.

This adds to the cost of the company, and

hence they indirectly pass it on to new joinees.

So, does this mean there is a gap between

academia and the industry?

Or do companies have to revise their policies

to ensure better prospects for freshers?

What is your take, let us know in the

comments.
