Introduction

The primary purpose of this study it to evaluate the


disaster alertness capacity of Bigg’s Inc. Main Kitchen, with
address at Zone 2, E. Fausto Drive, Barangay San Felipe, Naga
City, Camarines Sur.

This study aims to help and be a channel for this agency to


enhance their competence in terms of disaster preparedness. This
study also intend to impart new plan in their current strategy,
but also to suggest in conducting training for all employees and
installing of proper warning system device in the infrastructure
of Bigg’s Inc. This study also has the intention to adjust the
company’s risk program and be aligned with the compliance of the
company to the government condition which requires all companies
to have their own disaster preparedness plan.

The implementation of Republic Act 10121, otherwise known as


the Disaster Risk reduction Management Law emphasizes on disaster
risk reduction, which starts before, during, and after the event.
Disaster Risk Management actions in the pre – disaster phase are
aimed in strengthening the capacities and resilience of
households and communities to protect their lives and livelihood.

The researcher agreed that by being true to the course of


this study the researcher will be able to achieve their desired
objectives as well as produce their intended outputs: an
efficient and effective disaster preparedness plan and a program

of action to make them well – prepared in responding to future
disasters.

Statement of the Problem

This study will be conducted to assess the disaster


preparedness of Bigg’s Inc. Main Kitchen San Felipe, Naga City.

The study seeks answers to the following problems:

 What are the hazards, vulnerabilities and capabilities


of Bigg’s Inc. Main Kitchen, San Felipe Naga City in
terms of no. of employees, area and utilities used?
 What is the profile of Bigg’s Inc., Main Kitchen, San
Felipe Naga City?
 What are the existing DRRM programs of Bigg’s Inc.?
 What is the status of DRRM programs of Bigg’s Inc.,
Main Kitchen?
 What recommendation can be formulated for a more
enhance Bigg’s DRRM programs?

Objective of the Study

This study was conducted to assess the disaster preparedness


of Bigg’s Inc., Main Kitchen San Felipe, and Naga City. It seeks
to answer the following objectives:

To determine the profile of Bigg’s Inc, Main Kitchen in


terms of no. of employees , area, and utilities used
To determine the hazards, vulnerabilities, and
capabilities of Bigg’s Inc., Main Kitchen
To know the existing DRRM programs of Bigg’s Inc. ,
Main Kitchen
To know the status of DRRM programs of Bigg’s Inc.,
Main Kitchen
To give a recommendation to improve the company’s DRRM
programs

Significance of the Study

The product of this study may provide vigorous insights and
inputs to Bigg’s. It will also contribute to the management of
the said company on how to improve their preparedness level that
can lessen vulnerability of the company and its stakeholders when
a disaster occurs.

Scope and Delimitation

The study will focus on the disaster preparedness of Bigg’s


Inc., Main Kitchen San Felipe, Naga City. The data was limited on
the level of preparedness of the management and its premises.
This study shall be conducted from January 2018 to March 2018.

Review of Literature

IRR OF RA 10121
- RULE 6, SECTION 4 (9) to conduct continuous disaster
monitoring and mobilize instrumentalities and entities of
the LGUs, CSOs, private groups and organized volunteers,
to utilize their facilities and resources for the
protection and preservation of life and properties during
emergencies in accordance with existing policies and
procedures; (10) identify, assess and manage the hazards
vulnerabilities and risks that may occur in their
locality.

- A capable and accountable state, supported by an
effective civil society and engaged private sector, is
indispensable reduction of disaster risk.

- RULE 6, SECTION 4 (14) to develop, strengthen and
operationalize mechanisms for partnership or networking
with the private sectors, CSOs, and volunteer groups.
MODULE 2 ANALYZE CAPABILITIES, RISKS,AND VULNERABILITIES
- Your location and type of business can determine types of
risks that may impact your business, ranging from natural
hazards to terrorism. The nature and extent of the
vulnerability analysis will differ based on the number of
factors, including organization size, potential
population affected, system infrastructure, and other
factors. Security and safety evaluation also vary based
on knowledge and types of threats, available

technologies, and applicable local, state and federal
regulations.

Definition of Terms

Disaster – a serious disruption of the functioning of
community or a society involving widespread human, material,
economic or environmental losses and impacts, which exceeds
the ability of the affected community or society to cope
using its own resources. It is also the result of the
combination of: the exposure to a hazard; the conditions of
vulnerability that are present; and insufficient capacity or
measures to reduce or cope with the potential negative
effects on human, physical, mental and social well – being,
together with damage to property, destruction of assets,
loss of services, social and economic disruption and
environmental degradation.
Disaster Preparedness – the knowledge and capacities
developed by governments, professional response and recovery
organizations, communities and individuals to effectively
anticipate, respond to and recover from, the impacts of
likely, imminent or current hazard events or conditions.
Preparedness action is carried out within the context of
disaster risk reduction and management and aims to build the
capacities needed to efficiently manage all types of
emergencies and achieve orderly transitions from response to
sustained recovery.
Emergency – unforeseen or sudden occurrence, especially
danger, demanding immediate action.
Capacity – a combination of all strengths and resources
available within a community, society or organization that
can reduce the level of risk, or effects of a disaster. It
may include infrastructure and physical means, institutions,
societal coping abilities, as well as human knowledge,
skills and collective attributes such as social
relationships, leadership and management. Capacity may also
be described as capability.

Preparedness – pre – disaster actions and measures being
undertaken within the context of disaster risk reduction and
management and are based on sound risk analysis as well as
pre – disaster activities to avert or minimize loss of life
and property such as, but not limited to, community
organizing, training, planning, equipping, stockpiling,
hazard mapping, insuring of assets, and public information
and education initiatives. This also includes the
development / enhancement of an overall preparedness
strategy, policy, institutional structure, warning and
forecasting capabilities, and plans that define measures
geared to help at – risk communities safeguard their lives
and assets by being alert to hazards and taking appropriate
action in the face of an imminent threat or an actual
disaster.

Chapter 3

Methodology

This chapter presents the methodology employed in carrying


out the research process. The content include: research design,
the respondents of the study, the research procedure and
instruments used for data gathering.

Research Design

The study will utilize descriptive – evaluative and


developmental design to answer the objectives of this study by
assessing the disaster preparedness of Bigg’s Inc. Main Kitchen,
San Felipe, Naga City. Identification of hazards and
vulnerabilities in the company’s premises and early warning
system installed will be done. Evaluation of the DRRM activities
attended by Bigg’s employees will also be evaluated. Thru this
study, we can make Bigg’s Inc., Main Kitchen a disaster resilient
workplace. Before the researcher conducts the study, consent will
be secured from the company.

Respondents of the Study

The respondents of this study are the Bigg’s employees with
address Zone 2, E. Fausto Drive San Felipe Naga City. The area is
bounded between Peñafrancia Avenue and Pacol Naga City. The total
land area of Bigg’s Inc., Main Kitchen is 2,000 square meters
with 140 regular and casual employees who are directly working in
the company’s premises.

Data Analysis and Interpretation

Data shall be analysed using statistics such as percentage,


mean, mode, and median. It can be interpreted using tables and
graphs.
