TYPES & CHARACTERISTICS OF BALL IN VOLLEYBALL
Two types of Volleyball; Indoor volleyballs are designed for the indoor version of the
sport; and Beach volleyballs for the beach game.

 Indoor volleyballs may be solid white or the brightest shade of yellow. They are made in
two versions: the youth version is slightly smaller and weighs much less than an adult
volleyball, and a heavier medicine ball type that allows setters to strengthen their fingers.
 Beach volleyballs are slightly larger than standard indoor balls, have a rougher external
texture, and a lower internal pressure. They can be brightly colored or solid white.

 Molten  Mizuno
 Allsix  Nike

Types of Balls Depending on The Manufacturing Material

 Leather Volleyballs - The leather volleyballs are considered to be the top-quality

volleyballs. The balls are more rigid and can be made with different grades of leather.
 Synthetic and Composite Volleyballs - The composite balls are considered as practice
balls. These balls are ideal for training purposes and amateur players.
The Net

The volleyball net is 32 feet long by 3 feet wide. For women, the net should be 7 feet, 4
1/8 inches high. For men, the net should be 7 feet, 11 5/8 inches high. U.S. regulation volleyball
playing surfaces must be flat and not present any hazards to the players.

Antenna and Side Bands

Antenna are flexible rods that are 1.8 meters of length or 6 feet long made of fiberglass,
fastened at the outer edge of each side band. The top of the antenna extends 80cm above the net.
White antenna is used as the cue point for playing volleyball. Red antenna is typically used as the
cue point in men’s and women’s volleyball, while white antenna is more commonly seen in
youth or amateur games Side bands are two white bands attached vertically to the net and placed
above each sideline.
