 How UVGI Disinfection works

• ULTRAVIOLET germicidal irradiation (UVGI) uses short-wave Ultraviolet-C

(UVC) radiation to inactivate viral, bacterial, and fungal organisms.

• UVC radiation disrupts the deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) of a wide range of

microorganisms, including viruses, rendering them harmless, making them
incapable of reproducing.

• An organism that cannot reproduce is no longer capable of causing disease.

• The standard source of UVC in commercial systems is low-pressure mercury

vapor lamps, which emit mainly 253.7 nm UVC.
