Ralph is a good-looking guy; he is twelve years old and has a dad in the navy. He is chosen to be the
leader of the group because he is charismatic. At first, he will act a little immature, calling piggy by
the name his bullies called him, he plays in the water and gets happy about being on the isle without
adults. But as the story continues, he will realise how important his role is and how he must maintain
the organization, he wants to go back home. He makes many mistakes as he tries to deal with
everything like giving the choir to Jake to make him happy or not stopping jack as he gets violent
even if he could. Most guys want power, but mostly jack and ralph, they fight a lot and the mistakes
that ralph makes doesn't bring benefices for him because he tends to leave the power to jack. Ralph
struggles to maintain the group united because everyone goes a little crazy, but he wants to
maintain it. He struggles between civilization and savagery, and he experiences a loss of innocence.
He is invaded by chaos which and is slowly influenced by the others.

Jack is a mysterious character; he is the leader of the choir, red headed, and he is unattractive that's
why ralph was chosen over him for the leader statue. He is known to be a control freak, he likes to
have control over everything, even sometimes, lives. He is a hunter, loves to kill the pigs and that is
one of the reasons he will become more and more savage. He likes killing pigs because he likes
having control over the pig's life's (p.31 p.51) His is always in search of power, in the book he will
slowly become more a leader than ralph. He thinks that he is superior because he doesn't respect
the rule. Jack's hunger for power and his savage side, the dark side of human nature. His character
shows how important are the rules and restriction in society.

Piggy was bullied in high school that's why he was named like that, it's also one of the reasons he is
shy, introverted and a little scared. He is the one that is determined to go home more than the
others. He is smart and organized, already in the beginning of the book he is the one that suggest
using the conch to call a meeting. He always thinks clear, but he often experiences a lot of emotion
weaknesses and fear. He really fears Jack, and directly see jack as a threat when they meet, jack
bullies him a lot. He depends on ralph a lot because he always need validation and he also need a
kind of protection from jack and everything. Overall, piggy is intelligent but mostly scarred so he
doesn't assume and doesn't express his ideas.
