Introduction:-

Soil stabilization

• Soil stabilize means the improvement of stability of the soil by the use of
compaction,proportioning

• The objective of these study to improve the Characteristics at site and Make
Soil capable of carrying load

• Soil stabilization is the process by which the engineering properties of the soil
are improved and it is made more stable,it is used to decrease the soil
unqualified characteristics such as permeability and consolidation potential

• Also increase the shear capacity

• Method mainly adopted for highway and airfield construction projects.
Literature review

 Behaviour of soil by mixing of plastic strip

1. At different mixing ratio (0.2,4.6,8) by weight respectively there is
significantly improvement in the strength of soil
2. Concluded that due low specific gravity of plastic pieces there is decrease
in OMC of the soil
 comparative study of CBR of soil, reinforced with natural waste plastic
material
1. Mixed with polyethylene, bottles, food packaging and shopping bags etc as
reinforced with black cotton soil.
 Laboratory investigation on reusing polyethylene bag, waste material for
soil reinforcement in geotechnical engg.
1. Tests and analysis indicates that the increased strength for reinforced soil
is due to tensile stresses mobilized in the reinforcement.
Physical properties -

1. Transparancy

2. Durability

3. Elasticity

4. Water resistance

5. Electrical resistance
Chemical properties:-

1. Thermal resistance

2. Chemical resistance

3. Reactivity with water

4. Flammability

5. Heat of combustion
• Why plastic:-

1. Increases shear strength

2. Tensile strength

3. California bearing ratio of soil

4. Available in abundance

5. It can significantly enhanced the property of soil

Case study -

1. Soil stabilization using plastic raw plastic

bottles

• Anas shraf

• Arya sunil

• J dhanya

• B mariamma

• Meera Varghese

• M Veena
Difference between plane soil and reinforced with
plastic strips
Conclusion –

• The use of plastic wate has significantly helped in

ground improvement

• These new technique of soil stabilization can be

effectively used to meet the challenges of
society, produci useful material from non useful waste
material s.

• It can significantly enhanced the property of soil used

in construction of road infrastructure, results include
abetter .
